Guest guest
Now that "nonessential" county and city workers received snow days during the last two storms, what can be next? Maybe spring break in Florida.

Guest Bored in Binghamton
Working for the state if they send non-essential employees home they do not have to use their time. Me perosnally I would rather be non-essential and go home on their time instead of having the title of "ESSENTIAL"

ITS NOT A FREE DAY OFF YOU NUMBSKULLS! Let me see........."personal day" = time off with pay. Hmmmmmm........... I don't get personal days where I work. I'd love to, though. I don't even get sick days off with pay. Sounds to me like a day off with pay=free day off. If it's not "free", who's paying for it?

A lot of employers offer time off packages unless you work per diem. If you don't like your benefits, either go full time if you aren't already, or move to an employer that has the benefits you desire. Then, you too could have time off and wouldn't have to complain about others benefits.

To the "burger king" reply: How ingenious. I never saw that one coming. Is it possible for some of you posters to be more redundant and lame? Guest State Worker
Working for the state if they send non-essential employees home they do not have to use their time. Me perosnally I would rather be non-essential and go home on their time instead of having the title of "ESSENTIAL" The only way State workers are paid for the day is IF the Governor sends them home. Non essential workers do not have to come to work but must charge their accruals if they want to be paid for the day. Even if you show up and are sent home, you are not paid unless you charge your accruals. The Gov has to send you home or you dont get paid. I never saw that one coming. Is it possible for some of you posters to be more redundant and lame? Yes, that is my advice. If you are not happy with your job then do something about it. We reap the fruits of the choices we make. The State workers made a choice to work for the state and get the benefits they receive. You made a choice to work where you work for the benefits you receive. If you aren't happy with that choice then do something to rectify it. If you like your job, then stop complaining about it. I chose to leave a job with a school schedule to work in the private sector. I don't regret the switch, and at the same time I do not complain that teachers have more days off than I do. If someone has a "Personal Day", it is just like paid vacation....it is part of your employment agreement. Having to use a day that you are entitled to for snow is not a benefit. Nothing is free.....your salary (or hourly) pay, benefits, days off, and retirement are all part of your total compensation. If you don't get that.....Hmmmmmm......get a clue? No sick days? No personal days? Take off your Giant "Hi My Name Is Gomer" badge and get a real career.
