Soraring Capital vs BC Fusion

It's not always about talent. Not everyone can afford Fusion. The costs go further than training (which itself adds up quickly). Remember the travel costs- hotel rooms, travel itself, tournament fees, etc. There is the old saw about scholarship money for many "elite" sports groups. That however only covers the really destitute players. Kids from middle class, struggling families simply cannot afford to play.

This is extremely true. It costs far more to be a part of Fusion than simply the cost of training.

no i think you should name some names cause by you saying u shouldnt name names means that u dont no any1. as for the boys only shane could play fusion but he wouldnt cause he would play on the u17 team and those players are way better than him and the other kids arent very good ... and for girls the only girls i no of that have left fusion for better teams are maddie tiddick and dani delnero, kylie strom also but thats only becuase there fusion team sucks

I've already said the entire u14 girls team left the club, what more than that do you need to hear? You named 3 girls I gave you a team of girls but you still want to try and say people aren't leaving the club for whatever reasons? When Megan Bellingham was the best local girl she refused to play for Fusion, Jackie Fritsch was a another standout who said no to Fusion. When top local players won't play for the club it really says something.

The top players from Ithaca haven't come down to play, nor have the better players from Elmira, combined with the fact some of our better players go to Syracuse because its better doesn't say something to you? Fusion is not a true top level club, it wants to be it charges like it is, but its not. The top clubs have kids willing to travel to play for them, take a look at FC Delco from Philly, Dallas Texans, or Solar of Texas, the Colorado Rush, Vardar from Michigan those are premier clubs. People are willing to travel hours to have kids on the teams. Thats why Glen Buckley says we don't have premier teams, because we don't. There's too much "wanna be paid to be the man" stuff from local DOCs and local club heads to do what is best for soccer. This new "Empire State Club" combining Syracuse FC and Rochester is a start, but until it takes off we can't claim to have a top level club in NYSW.

This is true, but it's mostly because TC United (Ithaca) and Soaring Capital (Elmira) are on the same level as BC Fusion so there really would be no reason to travel to Binghamton to play. All three of the league compete in either Upstate Travel, Upstate Premier, WAPS, or Region I and all three are very competitive with one another.

But that reason is why none of those clubs are premier or anywhere near it. A premier club doesn't lose players within an hours drive to another club. The top players travel to play for the top clubs and thats part of the point Buckley has been trying to make. Until we stop the feudal system of 10 want to be premier clubs in an area that should have 1 or 2 (geographically) we will never have a premier club. BC Fusion has 1 true upper level team in the whole club (u15g), but even that group isn't drawing players from other areas to come and play. Why is that?, its because the players from Rochester and Syracuse still have teams just about as good to play with. Until thats not hapening no team in NYSW should actually call themselves premier, they are just local travel.

Maybe not true "premier", but much more advanced than say a Hiawatha, Vestal Extreme, or SRU club. Those teams (Fusion, SCSC, TC) listed play against TOP competition in top leagues in the state and therefore get noticed by many different colleges and universities simply by attending college "showcases". Teams must be invited OR accepted into these showcases and the fact of the matter is smaller clubs like Hiawatha, Vestal, or SRU wouldn't be accepted into them because of the level of competition they play, but teams like Fusion, SCSC, and TC have free passes to participate because of the level they are at.

Not right or wrong, but fact...

The fact is that despite all of that "college showcase" talk, Fusion doesn't produce college players for anywhere other than Binghamton. There has not yet been 1 scholarship outside of Binghamton University earned by a Fusion player. Those little clubs you talk badly about have been just as successful at sending kids to D3 schools as Fusion. Talk all you want about playing better competition, raising their games etc, but it hasn't shown through yet.

Look at the BCC womens team this past year, it had Fusion players (Karl, Schild) but the non-Fusion club team trained players like Cirillo, Colson, Hartmann, Dixon, Stabler, etc were just as good if not better than the Fusion players. For all the talk of Fusion the results haven't been seen.

This is VERY wrong. D-1 players may not be produced on a regular basis, but D-III players are everywhere...much more than smaller clubs. Also, those players you speak of playing at Binghamton are playing at a GOOD D-I program regardless of whether it's Binghamton University or not. They are playing there and producing. (Chavez, Sailor come to mind). Kristek and Sagasti are going this year and Weaver will probably do the same in the future. Soaring Capital produced Johnny Phoumanny and Darryn Keddell who BOTH played at St. Bonaventure (Phoummany won Atlantic 10 freshman of the year) and Josh Evans went to Niagara and played in the 3rd division of the Bundesliga (sp? German). Can the smaller clubs claim anyone?

Sure here goes, first don't put Chavez in with the Fusion, he played for his dads club team not for the Fusion. Soaring Cap was not a premier club when those players were there, they were still just a travel club so that defeats your argument. If you are looking for the other clubs, SRU had Pat Skinner & Tracy Kasmarcik @ Binghamton, Hiawatha had the Gretchkas- Bo @ Coastal Carolina-Orest @ Hartwick, VYSA had Stroud, Hogan @ Albany, Rounds @ Buffalo. The old Endicott club had Chris Riley @ Wright St, Andy Knoll @ Oneonta, Anthony Tyree @ Rider, Joe Macarek @ Siena, Esworthy @ Buffalo, Horton @ Carolina-Greenboro, and countless others.

Like I have said Binghamton is the only school that Fusion kids get scholarship money from the other clubs have had kids all over the place. Just because you don't know the history of our areas soccer it doesn't mean that Fusion has been more successful.

Fusion wasn't a club when those players played for those smaller recreational clubs. It would have been impossible for them to play with Fusion. Chavez played for the Syracuse Blitz actually. Another high level club...

the fact of the matter is, there are hiawatha teams that have consistantly played and beat TCU teams that currently play upstate premier. the point is, small local clubs have talent, just not the inclination to play fusion. this is not the world cup, and few of these kids are going to play professionally. even if they did, to play professionally in the US, would mean they would be very hungry... professional us soccer players barely make enough to cover basic costs.

woohoo!! this is just a game, get a realty check, not the world cup. professional ball in the us is a joke, and a player cannot even feed themselves on what they would make. let the kids have fun, and have a life, cuz in the end, that is what is going to matter.

This statement isn't even true. The MLS is currently a top 10 league in the world according to FIFA rankings and the players are paid more than enough to live on, otherwise players wouldn't come for foreign countries.

I would like to comment on this subject overall. First, if your child is just looking to play and has no desire to play at a higher level in the "travel sector" which I will classify as the "Premier Level" , than the club team is just fine and let them have fun a couple a nights a week with practice and a game that is local on weekends.

I do think that there is a fault with the club team coaches in identifying players that can and should be playing at a higher level but do not have the conversation with thier player(s), that, if they really do have aspirations in playing soccer at the college level, regardless of division, that they need to go to a team or club that plays better competion.

"Club" sector coaches do not want thier "better players" to leave because that won't give his/her team as good a chance to win or place in the Broome County League. Who care about this league? It's about having fun and nothing else.

Thier success should be measured in "how many players he or she was able to get on the local "premier team", should the player want to play at that level, not by how many wins and losses in the Broome County League.

There are plenty of appropriate players to go around for both level's, if supporting the "Premier Level" club is viewed as a negative thing, than the kids in Broome and surrounding counties will not compete at the state cup level.

An idea would be for each club to pay a "Premier Club" fee. Than this money from each "Club" would partially fund the "Premier Team" that each "Club" would try and graduate players to (if the player wants to go to that level) and not fight against it. The success would be enjoyed by all "Clubs" at the "Premier Level" and the success of each "Club" would be measured as to how many players they were able to place on the "Premier Level" team.

I personally think if the Chemung and Broome County teams, both "Club" and those considered "Premier" would form this coalitiion, that then we would actually have a team that would compete at the State Cup Level and possibly beyond. Until we do, "It is, What it is". This has been going on for years locally. We need a strong Broome County Soccer Association Leader for once and consolidate us as well as Chemung County. Get creative and get it done!! NYSWYSA is not going to do it for you or us. They collect the money just the same, so they won't push it, they are getting our money either way in the registration fee's! In addition, they do VERY LITTLE in our local area, Broome or Chemung.

GREAT post...the problem is, too many "club" coaches are out of their own political agenda. They win the BCSA and believe that they are now top flight coaches that are able to provide "premier" players with the training that they need, but don't realize that they are now hurting the players that should be playing at a higher level.

I agree with the above post as far as it is a much better way to set up the premier program, its very similar to what they do in Philadelphia with the FC Delco superclub, but if you read the NSCAA Soccer Journal (this issue/very last article) you'll see that even that club is having problems with the super club/premier problem. Anytime you start taking players away you risk destroying your feeder system, many club teams are at the minimum players already and losing the top one or two is a death blow for teams.

I also think you really need to look at the fact that many kids can't afford premier costs, especially the dramatic increase in travel costs and thats why they don't/can't go to that level of team. You seem to think its the coaches trying to hold onto them for selfish reasons, but I can assure you that most people I have spoken to normally cite the high cost as to why they aren't at the next level. Look at this artcle from the NY Times

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/11/sports/1...agewanted=print

it really shows how badly people are misled about the whole sports scholarship dreams for kids. The money they put it is rarely if ever translated into scholarships of equal value. Economically most people would be far batter of saving the costs of the teams and putting it into college funds for kids.

Actually, not so good of a post since the "solution" presented is fundamentally flawed. The BCSA is an administrative organization that merely facilitates the formation of an outdoor league in the Spring. It is in no way, shape, or form an executive organization that can dictate anything to the local clubs. BCSA has no authority over anyone except for those 10 weeks that it "supervises" the outdoor league. Any long range solutions would need to come from the Clubs themselves and whomever spearheads the effort to get them all on the same page whether it be NYSW, the Binghamton District Commissioner, a coalition of Club leaders, or even an individual. Buy-in would have to be at the Club level - there is no governing body that can force this issue on anyone. Therein lies the problem. Most local Clubs have a bad taste in their mouths because of the way "premier" has been handled in the past. Very few would openly accept the concept without actively being able to play a part in the way it is structured and developed and in having input into its guidelines. There are just way too many personal agendas out there for this to be accomplished quickly and easily. A centralized focal point for many true superclubs develop around an indoor practice facility. I think everyone knows that the dome has enough problems running its own business, let alone trying to get the clubs starting to work together. As an example, should a strong individual leader be brought in under the dome specifically to form a new superclub, Fusion (or rather BC United) would either have to be on board or it would take a few years to eliminate that group (Fusion) to truly be able to attract ALL the top local players. There are many ways to accomplish the same goal, but unless you have buy-in, it will be a long and bloody road.
