UE School Budget

He's a cranky old fart but not what you're alleging. Typical BCV bullsh*t. I don't want my school taxes - any amount - going to Vestal just because the alleged "coach" and the owner of Ideal had a "spat." Ideal is an Endicott business that pays Endicott taxes and deserves to have the team where they were for years until the coach got a bug in her butt. Plain and simple..it costs more to bus them to Vestal and it costs the parents and extra $40 a month to go pick them up.

Your school taxes went to Vestal long before the bowling team moved there. There are hundreds of UE employees that do not live in the district. Heck, McLeod does not even live in the district, she is in Vestal.

Why thank you Mr athletic director for your job responsibilities, but it isn't a full time gig...my lord, if your secretarial staff can't handle. 90 percent of what you just wrote, you all should go. Sorry, sports first, your job second. Difficult times....most of the tasks mentioned are once every 6 month items. I agree with the rest, time to cut the post.

I agree, I will give the guy weather scheduling, the once a month Meetings, and conflicts with games etc. Parents...but that's all. An asst. Principal can handle all these things.

A few things;

Oversee student physical and permission forms.

Keeping track of student eligibility.

Filling in open dates, taking care of weather changes in games.

Inventory of equipment and uniforms. You think of thirty or more coaches can each take care of their own stuff.

Supervising during games.

Representing the school at league, section and state meetings.

Evaluating coaches

Hiring coaches

Keeping individual and team records

Arranging for awards.

Mediating conflicts with coaches, players, parents, officials

Working with school booster clubs.

Taking care of visiting teams

Making sure deadlines are met

That's off the top of my head, and I don't particularly like AD's. It's that you are so sure no one in education does any work.

This is an embarrassing attempt to justify an AD job. The jobs listed on here are exactly why the AD position should be abolished, none have any significance and are certainly not worth the money any of them make. Making sure deadlines are met??????? The coaches can do more than you give them credit for. After all they all have master's degrees.

Do you really think any of the things posted approach a pay scale of over even 30 thousand a year? Please don’t tell me any form of education is required for this?

As the parent of a UE Varisty bowler, I'd rather the team bowl at a brightly lit, clean, and friendly bowling alley like Midway. It is an all-around better facility that hosts most of the major local bowling events. Most of the UE bowlers bowl in the Saturday morning instructional leagues at Midway as well.

Barb (the coach) and her staff are great with the kids, and most of the parents were included in the decision to leave Ideal due to the many issues there.

wow - we found a new way to cut 125k in every district. why don't school boards act on this stuff instead of cutting kids sports and teams and levels of competition

Coaches are responsible for ordering all equipment, adding games to stac already made schedules, permission slips, awards, eligibility, uniforms, ......supervising events....yes off season coaches are paid to work games, .......but visiting teams do need instructions on where the toilet is..........be serious. Job is no longer needed at ue

To the coward with NO NAME making accusations about the owner of Ideal, obviously you didnt read member guide about posts, but you probably can't read anyway, why dont you get the facts first before you go making slanderish accusations, obviously you don't know why they left in the first place. Also they wouldn't be bussing the bowlers at any home match or practice and they would have saved over 2000.00 maybe they would save another program from getting the ax. And how is it they have a current program going there from AGM for a 3 day event every June? Why don't you find out facts before you get yourself in trouble, did you know that the current coach worked at Ideal and when she QUIT she vowed to take the program from there any way she could. The owner would not have to be there during a match if the coach could control her unruly and arrogant participants, what happened to discipline? You can stand by and let kids walk all over you and destroy property and be all right with it,how about do your job or ask for help, I am a UE taxpayer and I don't want my tax $ going to Vestal just because of an ex employee and and employer squabble, this should have never happened but no one wanted to take the stand because they were afraid of the repercussion taken out on their child, several continued to come over for bowling lessons from the owner and still come there to bowl, their not afraid of the Big Bad Wolf!

To the varsity parent, there is 6 that bowl at Ideal and one of the UE assitant coach still coaches @ Ideal, and they all felt obligated to go to Midway to bowl on the condition they would be bowling their matches, and your wrong the 1st year of the move their was only 2 Bowlers that wanted to go and they already bowled over there in the Sat morning program? They had several meetings with Cindy and Dina and asked them to help wit a petition and had several meetings to ask them what they could do to stay, they were all against leaving, they would not even ask the kids or parents or most of All TAXPAYERS

Coache don't put together the entire budget for the sports program.

You think it is cost effective for all the coaches in all the sports to do their own thing without any one person in charge?

In many cases the AD job is combined with other administrative duties, that would be a district by district thing.

In this sue happy society you think you can run an activity with risk, such as sports, without someone in charge. In the fall season there must be from 15 to 20 coaches. It would be nice to thinks they could police themselves and get every thing done, but, really...

Not all coaches are teachers, you either know that or you don't know much.

That's funny, norwich eliminated their athletic director and they are still alive, and well. Vestal made theirs a part-time post......we don't have the money for the position anymore...an assistant principal can do it.....save 125k.....easy call. Way too much to spend on the glorified weather event rescheduler.

Think about kids walking alone whether they are 5 or 16. Would you really want your child walking in all kinds of weather along the busy streets with the crazy and distracted drivers, and not to mention the perverts that are all over and bullies. I think they should continue to bus any kids that want to ride and cut the money from the other less important things. Safety comes first. Why do people not seem to care about the safety of children anymore, but will go waste money on lottery tickets, casinos, drugs, all kinds of useless and frivoulous material objects and 100 sneakers, X-box games, big screen TV's. All kinds of foreign made junk. They think nothing of buying crap, but begrudge kids a ride to school on a school bus. Shows where America's importance lies today.

I walked 1.5 miles to school for all 12 years. It was never problem and I am probably healthier today because of it.

Stop busing the bowling teams to Vestal and using my UE school taxe$ to pay a Vestal business.

Are you kidding me? The girls won yet another STAC and Sectional Championship, held at Midway Lanes. The home lane advantage plus another plaque is well worth the transportation costs and revenue lost from a Endicott based business!

And doing all this ‘stuff’ helps kids compete in the global economy how exactly? You’ve got kids in China that already speak some English by 3rd grade – probably better than some of our High School kids. Students in India are in fierce competition from day 1 to get into the best schools because they know their future depends on it.

Back to our reality: Let’s pay someone a $100,000+ salary that has absolutely nothing to do with academics, then let’s lay off 3 or 4 teachers who actually educates our children. And while we are at it, make sure we lower our standards so everyone can pass the test.

Yup, having an AD to arrange awards and make sure the loosing team also gets one (so as not to hurt their self-esteem) is definitely a priority.

Why would you believe that the districts would even think about doing that?

Does it really sound like something that would be smart to do? Or do you think that they believe that parents and the public will be outraged and maybe think raising the taxable limit is a better idea?

That's because the girls are awesome players. That has more to do with their talent and the coach from Ideal than it does Barb. Let her donate her time too like the others.

Most of you people complaining don't pay taxes.

If you're concerned about your children's safety, walk them to school yourself. The exercise won't hurt you either.

If the sports cost are affecting the childrens education, then all sports should go.

If sports are to be played the parents of the children in that sport will have to pay the full cost, this will get rid of coaches and the AD.

Everything being the same as last year the district is getting a 2% increase in tax and a 4% increase in state aid. That comes to about 1.7 million extra dollars. Out of that amount of money the district can provide 70% of that amount to employees and their benefits. It appears from the amounts listed that they wish to have much more. In short cutting anything besides teachers salaries and benefits is pretty worthless(in reality it isn’t cutting their salary it is giving a raise and paying more for their benefits). All giving into their demands says is you can have a raise and maintain your current status at the cost of everyone else.Since the district has a set amount to work with now they can keep sports and children's transportation to the amount they are given out of the 30% of that 1.7 million dollars.
