Press Doubles: Endicott's Robbins rolls 300 game

 

Chad Robbins of Endicott rolled a 300icon1.png game and a 780 series to highlight the second weekend of qualifying at the Press Doubles bowling tournament held at six venues around the Binghamton area. After rolling a 243-237 in his first two games Saturday at Midway Lanes, Robbins, who appears regularly in the weekly Top 50 on Tuesdays, then rifled off 12 strikes in a row for the perfect game.

 

The top 128 pairs over the past two weeks of qualifying advance to single-elimination play beginning on Saturday, Feb. 23. The remaining teams will compete in second Chance Weekend beginning Saturday to fill out the 256-team bracket. The championship match is March 10.

 

Michael Spadine of Pennsylvania narrowly missed a 300 game Saturday at Brandywine Bowl, leaving a 10 pin on his final roll in the first game of his 675 series.

 

Father-daughter duo Tim and Casey McNeil were the top qualifiers Saturday at Laurel Bowl with a 3,012 pin total over two weekends of qualifying.

 

Denny Smith rolled a 793 series with a 289 high game to help his team place first at Brandywine Bowl on Sunday. His partner is Walton’s Alan Moore.

 

Ken Blaisure of Montrose rolled a 738 series Saturday at Brandywine Bowl as he and partner Bob Franko placed first.

 

Endwell’s Steve Kattell also rolled a 738 series on Sunday at Midway Lanes as he and Styeve Krna of Alexander finished with the high score.

 

Paul Schopperth of Montrose rolled a 738 series to help his team finish second at Midway Lanes on Saturday. His partner is Binghamton’s Roger Moody.

 

Bowlers that rolled a 750 series or higher include: Jason Vymislicky of Johnson City (771) Sunday at Midway Lanes, Joe Bensley of Owego (770) on Saturday at Owego Bowl, Brian Parker of Castle Creel (760) on Saturday at Brandywine Bowl, and Lawrence Mickens Jr. of Montrose (752) Sunday at Brandywine Bowl.
