Guest Guest
BNY , used to be BX and is run by Rob Baxter. Is it worth all the money in the end. It appears that you only get on the team unless you are invited. What would be a comparable program in the area. It used to be a decent program but like any of those type things, a lot of people probably have unrealistic expectations. If a kid works hard, he/she will get marginally better. I doubt it would turn a bad player into a very good player, the difference will be marginal. Attending a session right before the season starts is probably a good way to get a jump on tryouts. You could go into the season in better shape and worked out the kinks in your skills.
SPJ
Both of our kids (son and daughter) have attended BX and we feel they've benefitted and enjoyed the workouts. It's not inexpensive for this area, but the time spent is concentrated and efficiently used. There's virtually no down time during a basketball workout, or a strength and speed workout. Our kids love playing basketball, so we figure, why not help them improve as much as they can?I should make the point, too, that our kids have not played for BX teams, per se.BX isn't just for basketball players, though. Athletes from a variety of sports attend the S&S sessions.I'd absolutely recommend BX to help an athlete's development.

Guest Guest
BX is a great program. Much better than jokes like Hashey. BX is ran by a certified trainer and has kids playing many sports at many levels. Others in area do not compare.
Guest Guest
BX is a great program. Much better than jokes like Hashey. BX is ran by a certified trainer and has kids playing many sports at many levels. Others in area do not compare. It's harder to get a drivers license in NYS than it is to become a Certified Personal Trainer. Nobody on the staff at BX has credentials that I would consider impressive in the area of strength and conditioning.
Guest Guest
It's not a bad place for this area. Baxter was an okay athlete and went to an okay D1 school. That's more than 99% of the people in this area can say (including myself). He's certainly not going to be mistaken for Mark Rippetoe or Charles Poliquin, but he's adequate. You can do much better, but would have to travel quite a distance to find something better. I don't see the point in that unless your kid is the next King James. SPJ
I'm guessing the anonymous poster talking about "credentials" hasn't seen a BX workout, either at St. Pat's or at the depot gym location.A piece of paper saying you're qualified to do something is fine. Results are better.

Certainly not the top program in the US but far better than the other options in the area. BX is simply the cream of the crap. I'd like to see who the trainers are at BX and what their degrees are in. Any links or bios available? I'm just genuinely curious.
SPJ
Google the BX Player Development operation. It's the latest craze in how you can search the Web for things you're seeking. They have a Web site. Last I checked, there were bios. But as I said, a piece of paper is nice, but results are a better gauge.Attaching your name to an opinion also carries a bit more weight than an anonymous slam. SPJ
I don't know what the point of that is. "Guest" seemed to be saying that SPJ was as anonymous as "Guest," which is why I typed out my name for you.But more to the point, if you're critical of BX, your opinion might carry any credibility at all if you identified yourself and gave some context, rather than saying their Web site contains no bios of trainers. As others have said, there are plenty of examples of BX at work, and helping local athletes (and others) improve.

27 Time World Champions
Freddie Roach doesn't even have a High School diploma, yet is considered one of the best boxing trainers out there. Most of the degrees and certifications in the area of exercise science/strength and conditioning are questionable at best. It seems none of the so called experts and gurus can agree on anything. The bottom line is results and BX gets them.

Guest guest
I was able to attend a demo of a BX workout at Robs facility last week with 10 or 12 other area coaches. He had 3 of his current male athletes and 5 female athletes, and it was eye opening. He works on specific movements and agility, for each specific sport. And these kids work! This is not a place for the casual ballplayer unless you have a specific goal in mind for your future. It cost some money to attend, but if you have a dedicated athlete well worth the money.
