It's my hope that Zikuski actually did the right thing here and drew a line with his son, that after dropping out of rehab there was no more covering up for him.

More likely, given the history, though, that an officer or another official took it upon themselves to ignore Zikuski and do the right thing.

Zikuski III, police chief's son, facing charges after Thursday night arrest

Written by Steve Reilly

2:24 PM, Jun 20, 2014

Zikuski III, 22, was arraigned in Binghamton City Court Friday on two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, one count of criminally possessing a hypodermic needle, one count of driving while ability impaired by drugs and a traffic infraction, according to Binghamton City Court Clerk’s Office.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges at an arraignment Friday morning before Binghamton City Court Judge Carol Cocchiola, according to the court clerk’s office, and was remanded to the Broome County jail. The four charges other than the traffic infraction are all misdemeanors.

Michael Garzo, Zikuski III’s defense attorney, did not immediately return a message requesting comment Friday.

Zikuski III is accused of driving a white 2007 Chevrolet sedan while his ability was impaired by drugs Thursday, according to documents filed by city police in Binghamton City Court.

At 5:51 p.m. the car Zikuski III was driving allegedly deviated from a direct course in the area of Chenango and Mulberry streets on the city’s North Side, according to court documents signed by Binghamton Police Department Patrolman Raymond Gruarin.

According to the documents, Zikuski III allegedly possessed seven “wax paper fold containing a off white powdery substance that did test positive for the presence of heroin using the ‘902 NARCO Pouch Marquis Reagent’ test kit.”

Zikuski III is also accused of knowingly possessing one hypodermic syringe, according to court documents.

Court documents list 59 Audubon Ave., Binghamton as Zikuski III’s registered address. The home is owned by Joseph T. and Lisa A. Zikuski, according to Broome County property records. Chief Zikuski could not immediately be reached for comment.

Further proceedings will be handled by Cortland City Court Judge Lawrence Knickerbocker, according to the Binghamton City Court Clerk’s office.

So are we to assume heroin was, or is, present in the home of the Binghamton/JC Police Chief?

Well I have to give Steve Reilly credit in what appears to be an accurate account of what happened. The Chief always says that Steve shakes with fright when he is around and he would not dare cross him. I hope this is the start of Chief Z being held accountable for the mounting number of cover ups he ordered for his family members. But it is always best not to let experience be over ridden by hope. We shall see. On a side note Congrats to the BPD Ofiicers who did the right thing. Can't help but wonder what the outcome would have been on Capt. Bracco's shift.

It seems undeniable that Zikuski, at the very least, had heroin and paraphernalia stored in a car parked on his property.

That's some mighty fine police work there, stemming the tide of the heroin epidemic plaguing his house for years on end. Maybe Gruarin should be the new chief. As a 2013 recruit, he hasn't been there long enough to have had all normal human urges to do his job and do the right thing beaten out of him by the culture of the BPD.

He is the only investigative reporter this county has.

WBNG has updated their story: http://www.wbng.com/news/local/Police-chief--263988181.html

"The son of the police chief is currently on parole for assault charges from 2011, when he and another person beat up a Hancock teacher in the CVS parking lot on Court Street in Binghamton.

There have also been recent incidents, including one where Zikuski side swiped cars claiming he dropped his cell phone. The police report states a DWI investigation was done but showed no alcohol involved.

Charges:

- Driving while impaired by drugs
- Criminal possession of a controlled substance, two counts
- Possession of a hypodermic instrument"

It appears as though the reporters at WBNG, lead by Haley Burton, have revolted against Candace Chapman and Brandi Bailey.

I hope they manage to get an interview from the female physician on the West Side who Zikuski terrorized out of pursuing his son's burglary of her home.

They should also interview the EMT who found Zikuski passed out behind the wheel of his car on Leroy Street. Why wasn't the car searched then? According to the BPD heroin track marks were very evident on his arms.

By the way, bravo to which ever officer showed up and did the right thing!!!! No doubt that person is going to deal with major backlash now - feel badly for them.

Not necessarily. The 'chief' more than likely had enough of his son's BS and gave the officer permission to arrest him. It may be the only way to save his life.
