From JCPD FB:

"On Friday, October 27th, 2017 the Johnson City Police Department received a report of a white male in his thirties, with a thin build, that appeared to be noticeably missing several teeth, posing as a water department employee to gain access to an elderly victim’s residence. The suspect pretended there was a water emergency, distracting the victim while checking underneath sinks on the second floor. It is believed the suspect, pretending to be in contact with his ‘office’, summoned another into the residence via cell phone, who proceeded to steal jewelry and other valuable items during the scam. In this particular case, the suspect reportedly operated a dark possibly hatchback or coupe type vehicle with chrome or shiny rims. Similar scams have taken place involving criminals posing as tree service employees and electric service employees. This issue is not isolated to Johnson City and has taken place elsewhere in the state.

The Johnson City Police Department urges anyone who may have encountered a similar incident or has any information to contact the Johnson City Police Detectives at (607) 798-9318 Ext. 233; or the main number at (607) 729-9321. Please take the time to PASS THIS INFORMATION ALONG TO YOUR ELDERLY RELATIVES OR NEIGHBORS, as the elderly are typically the target group of this type scam."
