How about you provide us all a clear and accurate description of what the philosophy of "socialism" is both in its original form and in the context of today. You certainly know that a number of the most long-standing programs in the US are "socialist" by nature. The US and most of the nations of Western Europe are social democracies that to a greater or lesser degree have adopted some elements of the philosophy (US examples being social security, Medicare, Medicaid, welfare, unemployment insurance social services, etc.). It's not useful when used for the purposes of name-calling and fear-mongering.

Why do you even lower yourself to converse with the unwashed?

It's a matter of calling out bullshit when I see it. If you're going to fling labels around, at least have some idea of what the terms mean. That's all. Democratic Socialism works very well in many countries, countries with higher standards of living than the US.
thomas
America is a hybrid country. No reason to take a meat cleaver to it by the far left or far right. Everybody has a complaint. IMO Trump is an Independent Conservative. He needs 4 more years to drain the Swamp some more, get the economy roaring, and produce even more results for minority opportunity. Think positive. Kaz
I've driven by the Endicott library at least 6 times since early voting started last Saturday (different days and times) - today was the first time the line wasn't at least 1/2 way up the block...but it was still all the way to the sidewalk. Anybody know if it's been like this at the other polling places? Pretty impressive turnout this year.

At the library downtown yesterday there was a short line at 9am, then they let everyone in, not much of a line most of the day. At Taste of NY there was no line in the middle of the afternoon, you could walk right in with no wait, it was that way until polls closed at 6. PeteMoss
Since I haven't seen stories about polling places being looted or set on fire, I'm assuming most of the early voters are Republicans.

It's sort of how it works, but we also had a bad run with the positivity rate - the percentage of tests coming back positive. There are 44 Broome County patients listed as hospitalized at this point, up from 2 or 4 when our local mess started.

It's more indicative of our undercounting of positive people because of those that are asymptomatic or those that are sick, but don't get tested.
