Incompetent Michael Korchak has done it again!  This time his office failed to properly notify the victim's family in a manslaughter case, so they would be at sentencing to speak to the judge and the defendant.

Outside of the Broome County Courthouse, Mitchell’s family members spoke. They said they were not able to attend the sentencing due to receiving the wrong time.

Mitchell’s mother, Takicia Warthen, said she is devasted that she did not have the time to read her impact statement in front of the jury.

“My daughter could’ve been so much more but we would never know because she is gone and we were robbed,” said Warthen. “It’s just a shame that the people that is put in charge of these things didn’t inform me correctly so I could be here.”

The district attorney’s office said it did tell Mitchell’s family the correct time, but apologized for any miscommunication and is hopeful they are content with the sentencing Akol received.

There goes korchak, doing the defense attorneys work instead of what he's being paid to do, representing the people of NY

The victim's family always has a right to speak at sentencing.  This is unconscionable, especially in a manslaughter case where the victim is deceased.  And Korchak wonders why people say he's incompetent?

Not notifying the victim's family of the correct time and date is inexcusable.  But then seeing they weren't in the court room, and not requesting the judge adjourn and reschedule the sentencing, so they could be present and be heard, is even more inexcusable.

Lets be very honest about what happened here... that victim and her family mean nothing to Korchak.  If the victims was from a well-to-do family, or politically connected, Korchak would have rolled out the red carpet for them.  But he doesn't intend to use them for his re-election campaign, so they were treated like trash.

In Broome County, it's not about what you do, it' about who you are.  People who should be charged aren't, and people who shouldn't be charged are. The bottom line is, if the victim was a white girl from Vestal, you bet your ass her parents would have been at sentencing.  And her parents would be asked to be in a TV commercial for Korchak for his re-election campaign.

There are two justice systems in Broome County under Mike Korchak, one for his friends and supporters, and one for nobodies and his political rivals.
