Guest Guest
Great news, the Rescue Mission of Syracuse pushed through it's homeless shelter in Binghamton despite local residnts concerns and protest. Isn't that great? 32 more homeles men on their way, many more to follow http://www.pressconnects.com/apps/pbcs.dll...07/1005/OPINION Poverty and crime: Binghamton’s growth industries. We can look forward to at least 32 more homeless and unemployed men joining the community. The very last thing Binghamton needs. Once those beds are filled they will need more. No doubt many (but not all, I’ll agree) will bring with them all their social problems, like we do not have enough of those. Once again instead aspiring to lift itself up, Binghamton has decided to pull itself back down in the gutter. Binghamton is now the septic tank of NY State. Strange, didn’t it seem like just a few months ago the Rescue Mission was waiting for final approval and local residents were fighting it? Now it is a done deal. Whne did that happen? We can be sure property values wll remain low here, can’t we. Yup, we're showing the world we're "open for business". This should "restore the pride". Does anybody remember voting for this? I like Mr. Goldberg's claim, "Once we move into our new building, the opportunities to help people will increase. Lives are being touched and changed. And every time a life is changed, the whole neighborhood improves as well. " Rings Orwellian, doesn't it, like it came from the Ministry of Truth: up is down, right is wrong, good is bad... When did a homeless shelter ever improve a neighborhood? Goldberg probably thinks a crack house is good for the neighborhood, too, as it increases foot traffic.... The Rescue Mission is already advertising Binghamton on its web site, making Binghamton a destination point for more homeless. Let’s give them road maps to get here. Guest Guesty
Are you so out of touch that you believe we'll need to import homeless to fill 32 beds? Finally, homeless men will have somewhere to go with a touch of dignity. What do you think the 'emergency services' in their budget listed above is for? There is no housing so advocates are left with hotel costs to keep folks out of the eliminates. Now at least there will be a place for them to go, receive badly needed services, have a bed and a meal Thank goodnews for the Rescue Mission and the work they do.
