69 mpg diesel/electric hybrid Volkswagen

Was going to respond to one of the threads about gas prices, but decided this was worth a new one.

A big part of the problem with the current $3.35 per gallon gas is the weak dollar. We're currently paying $110 dollars for what should be $60 per barrel oil. You can thank deficit spending from both Republicans and Democrats for that.

Anyway, at 69 mpg, I can't match that with either of my motorcycles.

If you don't like hybrids, Volkswagen is also introducing a 62 mpg diesel.

What is the cost? The trouble with these hybrids is the money up front and the payback over time. Diesel electric has been around for quite awhile. Train engines is a good example. Locally many engines are run 24 hours a day because they are so hard to start and some of them do not even have batteries in them. In the summer time they move the trains from near the stadium so the baseball people will not have to breath the fumes. And park them through the city to gas us because they do not dare shut them down. The last gallon of oil will never be pumped out of the ground because it will be to expensive to use. Long run buy the hybrid ride your motorcycle and think about buying a bicycle.
