If you had a better understanding of history in general and terrorism in particular you would understand why sacrificing liberties for security is a bad thing for a liberal Democracy. These very same powers could wielded by the next president, could be Hillary, don't cry then. you've been warned. perhaps the phone companies are smart enough to know that the government cannot be trusted with such power. if you had any understanding of history, you would know that. it will be abused and used for reasons that have nothing to do with national security. it will be used to spy on political opponents and business competitors of the people who are friendly with the powers that be. it will be used for any reason they want. what would make you believe anything different? if the government wants to use this tool, they should have earned our trust. it would be an understatement to say they haven't. who are the patriots?
