As the war in Iraq reaches its five-year anniversary this week, two of the world's leading humanitarian groups issued extensive reports Monday describing a crisis of huge proportions with little reason for hope.

The International Committee of the Red Cross, in a report titled "Iraq: No Let-up in the Humanitarian Crisis," writes, "Despite limited improvements in security in some areas, armed violence is still having a disastrous impact. Civilians continue to be killed in the hostilities.

"The injured often do not receive adequate medical care. Millions of people have been forced to rely on insufficient supplies of poor-quality water as water and sewage systems suffer from a lack of maintenance and a shortage of engineers."

Civilians are also at risk from Multi-National Forces and Iraqi security forces, with many killed by excessive force and tens of thousands detained without charge or trial," Amnesty writes in its summary. "The death penalty was reintroduced in 2004 and hundreds of people have been sentenced to death. At least 33 people were executed in 2007, many after unfair trials."

conditions for women have worsened with the rise of fundamentalist religious groups. Many women "have been forced to wear Islamic dress or targeted for abduction, rape or killing."

Hmmmm......doesn't sound like it's Paradise on Earth yet. Sounds like GWB and Cheney have been doublespeaking again and not telling us the whole story....only what they want us to know. That hasn't happened before, has it?

Keep drinking your far left wing kool-aid. There has not been another in this country since 9-11. I would rather you just thanked GWB and went on your way.

Wow, what a piece of work. Maybe a true patriot like you should volunteer to help out in Iraq. You won't of course, because you would never fight for the freedoms you enjoy. You are most likely a overweight, repug, neocon slacker.

You must of strained you limited brain capacity when you wrote "libtard". Take the rest of the day off..........

Sore loser???

Who won?

Why hasn't your hero GWB declared total and complete victory in Iraq like you seem so anxious to???

How can victory be ours when Iraqis are protesting in the streets about the violence they suffer everyday? If the Iraqis cannot police and secure their own home, how do we declare al qaeda is "on the run".

You obviously swallow everything the White House spews out.

3/4 of America doesn't.

Ooops. Seems like your surrender plans are a bit premature. Maybe you should give up on giving up. But no......your mind is cemented. Pity.

Support for war effort highest since 2006

American public support for the military effort in Iraq has reached a high point unseen since the summer of 2006, a development that promises to reshape the political landscape.

According to late February polling conducted by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press, 53 percent of Americans — a slim majority — now believe “the U.S. will ultimately succeed in achieving its goals” in Iraq. That figure is up from 42 percent in September 2007.

The percentage of those who believe the war in Iraq is going “very well” or “fairly well” is also up, from 30 percent in February 2007 to 48 percent today.

The situation in Iraq remains fluid, of course. A surge in violence or in troop deaths could lead to rapid fluctuations in public opinion. But as the war nears its fifth year, the steady upturn in the public mood stands to alter the dynamics of races up and down the ballot.

Look, my Lefty Lemming friend......this war, like any other, has seen both triumphs and setbacks. But if our ultimate success in the war against Islamic extremism is in doubt, it is not because of the power or fanaticism of our enemy. It is because so many here at home (apparently including yourself), and even more around the world, find it more comfortable to believe that we are not really at war—that terrorists are only criminals, that September 11 was a fluke, that military action by the United States can only be counterproductive. I simply disagree.

Oooops again. I guess you lefties don't get out much.

Poll: Iraqis See Progress

A new poll of 2,200 Iraqis conducted by ABC News, the BBC, ARD German TV and the Japanese broadcaster NHK shows much improved attitudes across virtually every aspect of life in Iraq - though perhaps especially on the security front.

You are apparently incapable of posting without resorting to name calling. Which makes you appear very childish. Hence, your credibility is zero.

Everyone knows we are at war with al qaeda.

How about we attack them where they really are?

How about you reading an occasional newspaper and educating yourself? Don't like to be insulted? Read more and post less. Then you will be spared the humiliation of having your ignorance exposed. ;)
