And if so, would you admit it?

Ed, you have been skeptical all along about the regency deal. I was optimistic and blasted you a couple of times for being negative. But it seems on this one you were right.

What do you have to say for yourself?

Mr. not allowed also told us that the Binghamton Municipal Wireless system downtown was a sham.

Remember Matthew T. Ryan and Tarik Abdelazim said it would cost $58,000, $29,000 of which the City of Bignhamton had to pay.

Well, it turns out it will really cost about $100,000, so the City of Binghamton is on the hook for about $70,000 in two years for only 16 locations OUTSIDE. After two years it will probably collapse with no government funding.

Had the City taken the money and offered grants to businesses to do it on their own they could have had about 196 locations working inside and outside for four, five maybe even ten years coverign the entire city.

Looks like naysayers have crawled back under their rocks with news of the Regencn Hotel SNAFU and the real cost of the wifi sham.

Or maybe they are just working more to pay their outrageous water bill hike?

Second suitor still interested in Regency

By John Hill

Press & Sun-Bulletin

BINGHAMTON -- The president of a New York City-area development company said Friday his group is ready to buy the Regency Hotel and Conference Center from the city if another group's deal falls through.

"If they want to sell it, we are willing to buy it today," said Mahesh C. Jani, president and CEO of the Ronak Group of Companies.

Ronak and Nexus Hospitality Management LLC, of Scranton, Pa., each bid on the Regency last year. The city administration and city council chose Nexus, despite the fact Nexus submitted a lower bid, saying they were impressed with the group's track record with Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel in Scranton and its plans for the Regency.

In December, Nexus signed a contract to buy the Water Street hotel for $5.85 million. The deal was contingent on Nexus obtaining financing, which, thus far, it has been unable to do.

In a written statement, Binghamton Mayor Matthew T. Ryan said the city would work with Ronak if the Nexus deal fell through.

But Ryan, who was unavailable for comment on Friday, wants to give Nexus "every reasonable opportunity" to complete the deal for the Regency, said city Communications Director Andrew Block.

The mayor did not give a specific time frame for the deal to be completed, Block said.

Michael Kearney of Nexus, who has blamed the financing troubles on a poor financial climate, did not return a call on Friday for comment.

Ronak already has a letter of intent from its bank for an $8.3 million loan, Jani said. That money, and about $2 million of Ronak's own capital, would go toward the purchase of the hotel and $2.7 million in renovations, he said.

City Council President Martin Gerchman said Friday he still believes Nexus is the right buyer for the city in the long-term. Gerchman said he was willing to give Nexus a "short window of time" to come up with the funding, but he declined to give a specific deadline.

Ronak has offered to pay $6.9 million for the hotel, a figure that includes a 10 percent brokerage fee, said Tarik Abdelazim, executive assistant to the mayor. That would make the offer $6,210,000 -- $360,000 more than Nexus'.

STORY CHAT

Ha!

Why do you think any of this is happenning?

One little guy sending a few emails......

Matthew T. Ryan get out of the way.

Take Tarik Abdelazim with you before you both drag this city into the gutter with you. There might still be time to salvage it from the damage you have done so far.

#2 didn't the city get a $1.25m down payment that is non-refundable?

No, there wa no no-refundable downpayment.

That was part of the scam. Nothing, not a damn thing tied Nexus to this deal.

It has all been smoke and mirrors from Ryan for six months.

Why he wants this deal so bad is hard to say. I have got to think this Kearney guy in Scranton is either a relative or has some dirt on Ryan.

I hope Ronak gets the hotel and Kearney let us have the dirt on Ryan to get rid of him.

Matthew T. Ryan get out of the way.

Take Tarik Abdelazim with you before you both drag this city into the gutter with you. There might still be time to salvage it from the damage you have done so far.

Tarik, the professional protester, who at 36 years old is in his first real job. The guy that put us on the hook for a $100,000 municipal wifi system with only 16 locations OUTSIDE. Had it been done privately we could have had 196 locations, inside and out, for the same money. From what we have heard the DA should be investigating this guy for obstruction of justice for trying to spring his girlfriend at last week's BU anti-war protest.

If Ryan, his stooge Gerchman and their Citizen Action City Council do not take this Ronak deal and run as fast as they can to the bank with this cash they should be arrested and jailed.

It has all been smoke and mirrors from Ryan for six months. He has been telling us since October the deal was happenning next week. The Sales Contract signed last December with Nexus was a joke, it didn't even include a non-refundable deposit. They have nothing tied to the deal. Meanwhile every minute the City holds the hotel it loses money. It has probably lost more than $500,000 by not taking the Ronak deal in the first place.

All just another of Ryan's collossal screwups, like leaving half the O'Neil Building standing. He cost us $300,000 there. Between the hotel, the muni wif and the O'Neil building Ryan has cost taxpayers over $1,000,000 in nine months. No wonder he nees to raise water rates by 66% in 18 months.

Why Ryan wants this deal to go the Nexus Hospitality so bad is hard to say. I have got to think this Kearney guy in Scranton is either a relative or has some dirt on Ryan.

I hope Ronak gets the hotel and Kearney let us have the dirt on Ryan to get rid of him.

Again, how anybody put thIs inexperienced, incompetent clown in charge of a city boggles the mind.

i never ever thought i would say this and i fear that god may strike me down for saying this, but i do agree with ed on some points. first, they gave nexus enough time for the deal. if they couldn't secure financing by the deadline, it should be voided. Especially since ronak is still interested in thedeal. The only thinkg I do know as fact is nexus wants to put mone into the place and make major changes while ronak wants only minor changes and keep everything staus quo. This is straight from mr council president (which is the other point i agree with ed on...he is a ryans stooge and the council is a joke). Perhaps that is what the city wants or is hoping for. a big name for the hotel instead of another sai bless inn. Radisson is a good name in the hospitality industry. But I agree, the time is up. take ronaks deal and run. Do not look back.

Okay so i said it. i agree with ed. man do I feel dirty.

I like the roundabout idea. However this is not the time to worry about that. I could justify some work being done on the front street corridor to fix that and make that an attractive entrance to the city. But the time for the roundabout is if and when the city is more sufficient. I always thought that the city should concentrate on the area on the brandywine where the former stow manufacturing is. Why not use funds to make that area attractive. I always thought that would be the place for a shopping area and or walmart. That would solve the problem of the northside grocery issue and would make it an enticing stop off the interstate. Bottom line is funds should not be wasted on a roundabout until more emphasis is placed on increasing business downtown.

Shut up you fat pig! Poptart? what a fag name!!! Better off calling yourself the Pillsbury Doughboy. Leave Ed alone. If he wants to spend millions on a puppet show, let him do it! He's probably suffering from the chemicals at the dry cleaners...give him a break!

a couple of questions for you though.

Did your parents ever ask you to run away from home?

Do you ever wonder what life would be like if you'd had enough oxygen at birth?
