Guest Veteran Posted February 11, 2008 Report Share Posted February 11, 2008 This isn't the first conflict at Berkeley, They kicked the ROTC out of UCB years ago. Now THAT was their right, although I didn't like it then but the students and University can decide what programs they will support and students can decide to get an education elsewhere if they want to. But you don't just tell the Recruiters to leave. It's a Federal Agency. What's next? They gonna kick out the FBI? The Agriculture Dept, Army Corps of Engineers, Social Security Administration, FAA, Postal Service? They have a right to their opinion and can protest the war all they want. They can probably even get the Clintons to come and join them in the protest. They're not drafting anybody. It's still an all volunteer organization. If they aren't getting any volunteers from that area they will close the office. I wholly support congressional action to pull their funding. Military members have dug people out of mudslides and fought forest fires and helped in numerous rescue operations all over California. -- Retired Military, served in two wars. I'm surprised Bush wasnt there demonstrating. he was either in texas or alabama when real americans were fighting a war. You voted for him. Those guys are doing a job, a job many of you wouldn't even consider yet every day you reap the benefits of their job and those that have gone before them. The individual soldier does not choose the conflict, they are directed into it. Sure, if you have a beef with Bush, go after him but back off those that serve. The fact that you wake up in the morning, see the sun shine and can take your time going to work... You have those liberties because someone at some point in time secured your right to be free and many paid that price with their blood. Show some respect !!!! And you, poster with the fisted rose.
