School Bomb threat

Harpursville schools were evacuated for about two hours this morning after a bomb threat was found etched into a bathroom wall, the district said.

Students were evacuated from Harpursville Middle/High School and nearby W. A. Olmsted Elementary School while state police searched the high school for a bomb, district Superintendent Kathleen Wood said.

A state police K-9 unit was brought in to check the building, but no bomb was found, police said.

Students, who were evacuated around 9:20 a.m., were back in school and resumed a normal schedule around 11:30 a.m., Wood said.

The threat was discovered around 8:40 a.m., carved into the wall of a boy’s bathroom in the Harpursville Middle/High School, Wood said.

Because of their proximity, both schools were evacuated, said Wood.

I know that most of these are a hoax-- but why did it take 40 minutes before they started to evacuate?

Why evacuate the school? Has the ever been a bomb found when kids do this type of sh!t?

No, there hasn't.

What the school should do is investigate. Then why the kid is found, take him to the football field, douse him in gasoline.......

............and toss that match. When the kids see that, bomb threats will be a thing of the past.

At the very least, put the kid in jail for 6 months or throw a viscious beating into him so he has a lifetime reminder.

Cuts his hands off and he'll never write another threat again.

The solutions are simple. What is the hold up with getting things done?

Stop putting so much value on human life. The kid(s) who did this are not worthy of walking the earth.

It's that simple.

Actually this school did have a bomb go off in the third floor bathroom and injure a teacher years ago. Students warned the principal and other teachers that the kid was going to put a bomb in there and no one listened. The kid was arrested and back in school the next week. Slap on the hand was all he got for it too.

Slap on the hand for now, but try getting through college and getting a job with that on your record. Forget it, McDonald's would probably be one of the few places to take someone like that.

Let's see if we can base this on facts rahter than inuendo even tho that is what BC voice likes to major in....having talked to a teacher who has been at the school for 25 years, NEVER was a teacher harmed by any "bomb" in the bathroom in that time period. One time a student attempted to make some kind of "bomb" to flush down the toilet and blow up the pipes. It did not work, child was caught and punished and no one was hurt.

If such an incedent DID occur it was before that time. I don't know about the slap on the hand crap either. Were it to happen now, since Columbine...bomb threats have received felony status. It is NOT a joke. ANY warning either verbal or written is handled as a threat and treated accordingly. No teacher or principal would "ignore it."

By the way, the school did a great job evacuating both buildings in a decent amount of time. The time it took was to get the bus drivers back to school, call authorities, etc. A plan has been in place since just after Columbine (as it is in all school districts, now), was followed and was very successful.

You need to go back and ask that teacher to let you in on the rest of what actually happened and not just what the school system WANT people to know.

I was one of the students a poster here was talking about, that told a teacher about it. At the time of the "bombing", "Richi" was in 310 Study Hall, the one with the big hole in the wall that the kids used to spit there chew spit into, with a bunch of us that he had been bragging to. When he went to go to the bathroom, he looked back and winked. We told Miss Hall what he was going to do and she ignored it.

Mr. Pandich, who went to the 3rd floor bathroom constantly to smoke, (everytime I was caught smoking in the bathroom, I was sent to the rubber room to spend the rest of the day with Mrs. Villeco- why didn't he?) was in the stall next to the one that was blown apart, causing all the water and bathrooms on the 3rd floor to be shut off. Mr. Pandich had cuts on his ass from it. BUT (no pun intended-maybe a little) That was supposed to be kept hush-hush because there were alot of complaints about him NOT getting into trouble for smoking in the bathroom but the kids got into trouble for the same thing.

And as for the plans after Columbine, "Richi" was in the class of 1991. WAY before Columbine. Rex NEVER listened to any of the kids unless they were A students. Miss Hall was biding her time. Hutch was a drug dealer and smoker. Mrs. Harris, Miss Rhodes and Mr Denny were the only ones that I can remember that gave a crap about any of the "low life scum" that went to school there. That was Mrs. Hennessey's name for some of us. Mr. Hennessey was great too- forgot about him. Sorry.

I find that the ignorance of parents during these types of incidents to be totally amazing ... while making themselves look utterly ridiculous in front of an entire student body and law enforement authorities ... parents ranting and arguing with state police officers demanding to take their children from the secured site that they were evacuated to ... do they really think that the school doesn't have their children's best interest at hand? ... my 1st hand observation of the entire process was that everyone (all students and staff) was taken to a secure location, transportation of the students was orderly and conducted in a very timely fashion, all proper precautions were taken to provide a safe environment for each student ... hats off to the all of the administration, staff and students for a job well done !!! and to those concerned parents who made themselves look like idiots ... get a life or better yet a job !!
