PC Virus Warning

Warning

I decided to verify this myself first on the Snopes site before

posting. Guess it's another "real deal".

Subject: VIRUS WARING

Anyone-using Internet mail such as Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL and so on.

This information arrived this morning, Direct from both Microsoft and

Norton.

Please send it to everybody you know who has access t o the Internet.

You may receive an apparently harmless e-mail titled "Mail Server Report"

If you open either file, a message will appear on your screen saying:

'It is too late now, your life is no longer beautiful.'

Subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC, And the person who

sent it to you will gain access to your name, e-mail and password.

This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon.

AOL has already confirmed the severity, and the anti virus software's

are not capable of destroying it.

The virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself 'life owner'.

PLEASE SEND A COPY OF THIS E-MAIL TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS, And ask them to

PASS IT ON IMMEDIATELY!

THIS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY SNOPES

If you scroll down further on the snopes page it explains that this is a hoax, a combination of a real worm (mail server) and a hoax (life is beautiful).

never open an attachment you weren't expecting

I think that the snopes message is self-explanitory. It is real as posted. ;)

Technically, they explain that it's not exactly as posted. It doesn't erase everything on your computer, it just sends out mass emails to people in your address book.

This is a HOAX

I, Like the poster above, also work as IT for a very large company in Owego. I can tell you we were made aware of this on Monday afternoon and went into action. It's nothing more then a APRIL FOOL's DAY HOAX.

End Of Story

Why does everybody think that snopes and wikipedia can verify everything? These information sources are not anywhere near 100% accurate, but the entire internet community seems to think that they are. FOOLS, all of you...

Even if it's a hoax it can be damaging. Some hoaxes cause an anxious user to do their dirty work for them by probing into unfamiliar places seeking to remedy something that doesn't need it. It's that meddling that can do the damage.
