For all those critics of of economic development in the downtown core of Binghamton and all those people that question what Merry Harris has accomplished in two years in the Office of Economic Development we finally have tangible proof that things are happenning.

Remember this empty store front on Court Street that sat vacant for years and years with a small faded sign from the Binghamton Economic Development Office in the window:

Well, after two years and over $100,000 spent on salary and about $12,000 spent on budget we finally see some progress:

Here is that same empty store front on Court Street but look at that new sign!

There is proof, my friends, proof positive, that things are happenning.

Don't be fooled.

The downtown economy is thriving.

Just look at that sign.... that's a color picutre by the way.

Good job Merry Harris!

Would you like a little more irony?

Remember that US Airways Magazine Promotional Business magazine which featured Binghamton that everyone was so excited about?

Well, I picked up a copy of this publication at the County Building a couple weeks ago.

On the cover is a photo of a neo-classical building with two columns and "Smith-Barney" engraved in stone above them.

Do that sounds familiar?

It should, it is this vacant building on Court Street:

375302558d828dd0739566662c982bc3162b9d42bb54708beab20e6c453e9fcb212d683f.jpg

Talk about misrepresentation!

The building used to portray Binghamton's bright economic outlook is an empty one. Who made that call? Who comes up with this stuff?

It gets even better.

When you open the magazine on the inside cover there is anothe neo-classical building shining in the sun looking very stately. Yup, you guessed it, another empty building, the old library building nobody know what to do with.

Highlighting "Downtown Binghamton: This vibrant comunity is also committed to the principles and vakues iof sustainabilty", are two vacant builsings. At the very least they should have put a realtor number under the photos to try to sell them.

Speaking of sustainability, tell, us again how Binghamton will sustain its useless $100,000 wirless system once the grant money is gone in two years?

All this will be changing very soon.

Tarik is on the City Finance Committee. He'll whip this city into shape. After all, look at his employment and entrepeneurial track record.

Yes, Tarik who told us that losing only $15,000 per year for the downtown wireless system was a great bargain, only now it turns out we will lose about $75,000 in two years.........

That very same Tarik.

Oh, I'm sure there must be a couple more of them around town.

Let's say there are 10. Plus there is a community garden.

Ten signs and garden for $120,000.

L.M.F.A.O.

If you people only knew. She cloud not even make it as a Human Resource Manager. Worked from about 9-10 to 3 or so every other day. Was a YES person then and still is. I could tell you some stories about her that would send chills down your spine in a heart beat.

The only reason she got this job was because her husband defended RYAN in a few legal matters ( you remember, woman in laundry mat - woman at center - vestal court ) and it was a trade off for services rendered.

POLITICS MY FRIENDS ! ALL AT THE COST TO THE TAX PAYER

Merry, can you tell us exactly how many empty storefront there are on Court Street from the Bridge to Chenango Street?

Is this number greater or less than the number two years ago?

I can't tell you exactly how many there are, but take a drive down the street. You'll see it's easily half of them.

I agree.

I'd like Merry Harris to give us the official count.

If she cannot I will, address by address, business by business.

Merry Harris is an embarrassment. She knows it herself:

Merry Harris, Binghamton Economic Development Officer, a woman forced to bow and sit in shame and embarrassment beside the failure of a man, mayor and employer. How does she look herself in the mirror every morning? How does she face anyone with any credibility?

Merry, where can I get one of those signs?

Do you have any left?

Did you print three or four?

You must be comforted in knowing you are not alone in Economic Development, you have Daphne Gathers, "Neighborhood Development Specialist" to assist you!!!

Between the two of you, could you count those empty spaces on Court Street?

Thanks.

Merry how do you decide which empty storefronts get the BEDO signs?

There are so many?

How do you choose?
