Hello,

I'm a local web designer and developer and I'm looking to start up some sort of website specifically for our area. I'm not sure what kind of site I don't want a community forum or anything like that because I choose not to compete with bcvoice, but I want another site of some sort, seems like classifieds is flooded around here, and also job search sites etc... doesn't seem to be a good market to get into.

I would like your opinions of what kind of sites you would like to see with a main focus of the local area only.

Let me know your opinions they are greatly appreciated and very helpful :) and if a suggestion is used from bcvoice they will get free advertising on the new website when it's complete!

Let me know what you want as far as a locally based website whether it be an auction site or profile site, local directory for restaurants etc... anything just toss them out there.

one suggestion i've had is a restaurant ranking website that is currently under development and restaurants from the local area only will be on there and you can go through and leave comments, reviews and votes on the restaurant.

more ideas needed :)

thank you all in advance.

Sure thing if there are ideas for money making sites and you would like to joint venture in on the idea and profits that's fine with me to. But I still want to make a community based site whether it be profit or not for profit. Doesn't matter to me.

I just need stuff to do lol

Any money making ideas for sites just pm me because don't want everyone getting a hold of the ideas ;)

That's not exactly what I had in mind. I had something more along the lines of help out the community with more of a community ran web site not another site about how people get screwed... there's too many of those out there.

sad really...

The local job websites are complete joke.

What's that one that gets advertised a lot....Binghamtonhelpwanted.com?

What a wasteland that one is.

If you could put up a website with REAL jobs for real people who really want to work, I'd encourage that.

The only problem is you'd have to list out of town jobs. There are no jobs here other than min. wage.

There are already too many local websites with redundant info. You would have to be completely creative and come up with something completely different if you want to be successful. Anybody with really good ideas should keep them to themselves, and not give them up because someone asks for them.

BTW, are you willing to compensate anyone for worthwhile ideas?

Yeah of course if it's a profit site if it's a site that isn't going to make money then there is no need for compensation, because no one is making money on it, it would just be a community site like bcvoice.com

Watertown has a great site. Newzjunky.com A site such as that I think would do very well here. The site owner does a nice job and makes decent income from it.

Good luck to you in your endeavour.

We do a lot of take-out food. Lots of restaurants around here don't have web sites, surprisingly. I'd love to see a web site with accurate menus and hours. It would be nice if it had a section for reviews. A stripped-down version available from a cellphone browser would be nice too.

BCV does make money off of advertising, and judging by the amount of clicks and hits they get I can guarantee you that they are making a profit. Not to mention the business that Billy gets from his advertising here. If you don't think BCV is making money, then you are obviously not qualified to run any website.

I understand for business owners like billy are making money like advertising through here but this site isn't here for the main purpose of making money or income it's just here for the community. Believe me I do understand they may make a little here but it's not like it's purposely here for money it's here for the community and if they happen to make some money off it for it then it's just an extra benefit. I am qualified to run a community based website don't be too fast to judge someone. I'm trying to do something more for the community of people on BCV not for myself. :)

I was considering an idea about this for restaurant reviews around the area that is definitely something I may consider as a site to start-up. Low Maintenance.

PSB has this "cheap date" thing they have been doing for a while now. If you could expand on that idea, where the food and service was good for the buck, have it available to be rated, along with menu's, you'd have a good start.
