Softball pitching is not the same as Baseball. The injuries are different. Exceptional young lady softball pitchers don't suffer shoulder or elbow injuries which require surgical repair, and after a rehab period are as good as ever (assuming the benefit of medically supplied steroids). Rather, young lady softball pitchers suffer lower back and knee injuries that can be debilitating later in life, but they gave their best on travel team over the summer in pursuit of a TitleIV scholarship. And nobody cares about position players.

I wouldn't say that. Maybe Coach Waldron would like to have some time for himself and his family.

Coach Waldron is a great coach and has a great program, just wondering if softball participation is down all around? From what I have heard numbers were down all around?

I don't think that has anything to do with interest in the sport. The fact that more and more people are leaving New York State may answer that question.

"No one care about position players"???? LMAO, pal you are wrong! Most of the best area softball players to go D1 or D2 were and are position players. Surf the web and do some research before you start skipping stones.

Sorry folks, but as good as Union Endicott especially and Horseheads, Windsor and SV will be this season, reductions of the amount of games each team in the STAC can play will hurt our teams in the area. This is the first year since 1996 that Section 4 is not having at least 1 school participate in the Morabito Tournament. Schools can no longer commit to the 4 games needed.

Just wait until State Regional Play In Games start. You will see the Section 1 teams, like possibly John Jay East Fishkill, RC Ketcham or Carmel in Class AA and say Valley Central or Minisink Valley out of Section 9 in Class AA and say Beacon or Pearl River in Section 1 and Cornwall in Section 9 for Class A, taking our teams to the wood shed, because Section 1 and 9 don't have the restrictions placed upon them like the Section 4 teams now do.

Really sad

THere is no restrictions on the varisty teams in section 4. Each teams menitoned can still play the same amount of games as in the past. Each team gets 20 games and each team should save two games for the STAC semis and finals if they think they will make it. What has changed is league games. Each team will play each team in there league twice. Doing this would still give the teams in STAC 4 extra games to play in morabito or use the games how they see fit. So the section 4 teams that usually go to the morabito are choosing to go south rather than herkimer. Its all about choices must be made

Each team having to play each team in their respective league twice as well as the requirement to also play conference games is the real reason why STAC teams can no longer play in tournaments such as the Morabito Tournament or the BAGSAI High School Showcase Tournament (don't believe that this event is being held this year). STAC Schools just don't have the extra games to play in such events (now that they have to say play a total of 18 conference/league games), thus the reason why schools can no longer play in such events.

Choosing to go south to play has nothing to do with it (Games outside of the NYSPHSAA, PSAL or CHSAA simply cannot count at the end of the regular season, according to the NYSPHSAA guidelines). Teams can scrimmage teams "down south" as many times as they want (as long as the events are conducted in accordance to NYSPHSAA scimmage rules). Some teams say that the experience of playing in warm weather during spring break helps a team greatly. Some say that games played later on during the season "In State" better serve their team.

Example UE plays the teams in there division 2 then plays the teams in the west twice each that equals 14. You also should save 2 for the stac Semis and championships which equals 16. That saves 4 games for teams to do with what they want. Teams have choices on games to play. Teams in Section 4 have choosen to use those games for other than the Morabito Event

Why didn't Corning return to the Morabito to defend their championship if they had the 4 games to give to it? Someone told me that they didn't have the 4 games to give due to new league requirements

UE has 2 great pitchers, they should be good this year.

OK, brace yourself Section 4 Softball Fans. This 2013 season will end up in heartache for both the Section 4 Class AA and A winnder (Afton in Class D is again primed to win another State Class D Champiion). For Class AA, forget it Corning Fans, Forget it Horseheads Fans, Forget it Union Endicott Fans. ENJOY YOUR STAC AND SECTIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. Once you get out of the section and go into State Regionals, these teams will get SPANKED big time by the Section 9 Champions (Section 1 has the bye this year). Valley Central or Kingston out of Section 9 are clearly better teams and better prepared this year than any of the Section 4 teams. And in Class A, Cornwall out of Section 9 is heads and shoulders above any of the Class A teams in Section 4. AND, if, by a stroke of a miracle, you are able to squeak by the Section 9 teams, you have to then go up against the Section 1 teams. In Class AA, teams like John Jay East Fishkill, RC Ketcham, or the now favorite, Carmel as clearly superior on the field than any of the Section 4 Class AA Teams this year. And in Class A, you have the favorite in Eastchester (along with other possible teams from Section 1 as Tappan Zee, Brewster, Ursuline or Pearl RIver).

Remember folks, the days of Michael Johnston Jr (Corning) Warren Conklin (Horseheads), Dave Ligekis (Seton Catholic) and Dale Cook (SV) are long gone and sadly the state softball dominance that once was Section 4

Just heard that Union Endicott will be playing Carmel out if Section 1 in this afternoon's Class AA Regional Final (Carmel just finished their Sectional Championship Game against RC Ketcham this morning, 2-1 in 11 innings, which was continued from last night due to darkness). Good luck to U-E today (does anyone know anything about Carmel? (All I was able to find out was that Carmel played CNS earlier this season at the Morabito Tournament).

Also Maine End well is playing Tappan Zee out of Section 1 today at BAGSAI. Does anyone know anything about Tappan Zee?
