Overselling of Binghamton's "free" WiFi

Much like other "big announcement" "complex public projects", the impact and importance of this WiFi thing is being grossly overblown, with some Ryan cheerleaders claiming it puts us in Orlando and Raleigh's class.

Please, if it is a meaningful achievement at all, which remains to be seen, it is a modest one. Why can't it be portrayed that way? Why does everything around here have to be hyped and oversold to the point that it makes us look desperate?

Because when you really look at it they have accomplished nothing, but a bag of wind. And they have to do their best to make everything look bigger than it actually is because what is the alternative?

For $500 the restaurant and bar owners on the Parlor City Commons could have done the same as Ryan did with $60,000. The only practical place this wifi will be used is in that small spot. There is only one hotel within the service area, they won't use it. All the office spaces already have Internet access. There are vey few resident within the area and those that do live there will not have the hardware necessary to take advantage of this.

It is a total waste.
