Ryan's Recovery & the BFD

Guest Tax Payer Watchdog

As we watch our City slide further towards its taxing limit and further into the abyss of economic no return, we see that Mayor Ryan & Assistant Abdelazim have gone before the Press Editorial Board with their State of the City 4 Panels plan for recovery. In their presentation to the Board they once again whine about escalating fixed personnel costs. While this is indeed a very serious concern, Ryan & Abdelazim were obviously not called to task by the now complicent Press as to their failure with the recent budget opportunity, specifically as it relates to their "negotiated" 4 year, no cut settlement with the 10 million dollar Fire Department. To those taxpayers who have little idea as to what this sell out of the taxpayers entails, this is just an initial sampling of what is to continue...for 4 more years: A current Binghamton Fire Department hierarchy with an officer for every 2.3 firefighters.

1 Fire Chief @ $85,715.00

1 Deputy Chief @ $68, 906.00

3 Assistant Chiefs @ $66,352.00 each

1 Fire Marshall @ $68,906.00

1 Fire Training Officer @ $66,352.00

9 Fire Captains @ $58,697.00 each

24 Lieutenants @ $56,144.00 each

40 Officers

86 Firefighters (grade 1) @ $51,042.00 each

4 Firefighters (grade 2) @ $47,467.00 each

2 Firefighters (grade 2 ) @ $43,384.00 each

92 Firefighters

And the latest hue and cry by the public is for consolidation of local Police Departments??????

1 Deputy Chief, 3 Assistant Chiefs, 9 Fire Captains, 24 Lieutenants....an officer for every 2.3 firefighters.

Is that for real?

Are you kidding me?

What could they possibly need 24 Lieutenants for?

The company I work for just laid off 2/3 of it's staff. I have to do 4 people's jobs now, plus my own.

WTF am I paying taxes to support this insanity for??? Had I known this, I would never have bought my house in the city 4 years ago.

Now that Tarik Abdelazim has locked the firefighters into a four-year, 14% increase salary contract, now, he thinks it is time to compare Binghamton's budget with other similar towns and cities!!!!

Stop responding to yourself loser. You make it painfully obvious with your continuous questions to yourself. Is this true? This is insanity. Are you serious?

Look deeper into your crystal ball and will discover that there are more than 2 or 3 people who read and post on BCV.
