There was a time when we were proud to be Americans. I think this country has strayed. Almost half of our population will vote for those who have no interest in bettering our country but only their own aggrandizement. If this video does not bring a tear to your eye and a longing for an America that stood on sound priciples then you have likely fallen victim to the leftists that seek to destroy us. They think Gettysburg is some kind of lettuce. They scorn our men and women in uniform ( see John Kerry). They think christian beliefs ( what this country's values were founded on ) should be stricken like the plague. This country has always had problems ( don't they all) but we were a much better country 60-70 years ago because the majority of people were brought up with christian values (which are all good weather you believe in Christ or not). That speech came in the midst of the vietnam conflict when regular Americans were experiencing their own dissatisfaction with their lives and where their country was going and were being confronted with several very public movements proclaiming the American way of life as having derailed. The time period you want to go back to was chock full of things of which most Americans are now ashamed. However, the trip down to 'way back when' somehow always leaves out those facts and remembers the idealic and safe feeling you had as a child. Its just part of human nature to falsly remember the better world of our youth and forget things like anti-american hearings and children consciously afraid that they'd be crisped by nuclear fallout. If you recall, many of the variety shows on TV at the time were doing these rah rah rah bits with an assortment of celebrities reminding people that everything was really OK...really. Gasoline was cheap. Women and minorities were not doing the news or running for office for that matter. The Klan was in control in the south. The "House of the Rising Sun" was too risque for radio. Lucy and Ricky has twin beds. The National Guard could shoot college kids and get away with it. IBM was polluting your groundwater. The reason Europeans came here was to get away from religious prosecution. They didn't like having the Kings of England and France forcing them to worship like the King did. This country has always had problems ( don't they all) but we were a much better country 60-70 years ago because the majority of people were brought up with christian values (which are all good weather you believe in Christ or not). I can think of a few times in History in which Christian "values" caused immeasurable death and pain. The Inquisition. Black Slavery. That's just to name two.
