Guest THE WORKERBEE
Well it is getting close to my 5 year reunion of leaving Binghamton for Syracuse. I thought I would check in on you all to see how you where progressing. And if possibly any of you had evolved from dragging your knuckles on the ground. Though much to my disappointment I see thing are the same. In some certain circles an opinion is that Binghamton police officers don't do to much. Though I do remember a certain incident that occurred this summer where Mayor Ryan was glad to have the support of those extra 10 officers. Though it might be a matter of weeding out a few bad apples in order to make room for more capable professionals. A budget cut makes sense in order not to hurt those bad apples feelings. Short of that you all live in a area that has more cops than you need. Vestal, JC, Chenango SUNY, and the State Police. How many cops do you need??? A good solution in my opinion would be to? Lock your door, don't leave your car unlocked with valuables in sight, don't do things that will attract scum bags. Prevention is worth a pound of cure. If the Mayor put this Budget cut out there for you, I'm sure there is a reason. Crime is everywhere and more or less cops are not going to change one thing. Street cams and response time. Talk about that...
Guest guess
The street cameras have been in service now for years and to my knowledge haven't prevented or helped solve any crimes. The problem with this socialist city is that no one wants to admit that our generous social service programs, watered down prosecuting and hatred of the police department equals more crime. Although I don't refute we have enough police just look at the ones we have. You'll be hard press to find a cop under the age of 55 working the street in bingo during the day. What needs to be revised is civil service law, 55 and out just like the state police. This will streamline the local departments and allow an infusion of new blood that tends to be proactive in nature allowing more to be done by fewer. @

Guest candygurl55602000
for the person who thinks bpd has solved every murder or missing person case in binghamton is crazy. i know a girl that has been missing for almost 4 years now and they haven't found her why because they haven't tried. they have been giving many tips but i and other people don't believe they aren't even trying to find those rotten people if that's what you would call them. so as for the person that thinks that bpd do such a great job well i for one think they don't broome county sherriff's do more
Guest Guest-thump38924-*
i give the bpd a 9.9 out of ten. it would be a ten if they would lock up every single degenerate downtown....but i know they can't... i have dealt with the bpd alot (on the good side) and come to the conclusion that they are a well organized, professional, fast acting and if i'm not mistaken, i think they have solved every murder, arson, robbery and whatever that we've come across in the city. am i right? wrong? WRONG......
R.S.
If you city people stood up to him, you wouldnt have this problem.. Instead, you support him by writing on here, and not doing anything out there... Take a stand for once in your life... If the people would stand up not only with Ryan but others in our sytem things would be different....why cant others come forward and let others be heard ? System needs alot of cleaning up and if we the people dont speak out then everything will remind the same. Very sad to see Broome going to h*ll

Just notice a new red hundia with it's side rear windshield smashed in (Saturday morning) Ask Ryan to form a task force of his friends that don't know the first thing about public safety Than when he wastes $50,000 on it he'll throw away the findings before anyone can see it. @

Guest Guest
Now Ryan wants the Business owners to pay for extra police protection. So that means better police protection if not paid for by the high taxes they receive now.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious, here, but aren't there only one or maybe two bars that can let anybody out onto the Commons? Doesn't he want them to pay to put cops back there? Couldn't they just not let people use that exit?

Someone's gotta pay for the wifi that no one uses, too. @

Guest augustus
This is a bad move, but one the mayor has no control over, instead babbling and pointing fingers start looking at the bigger picture which i'm sure you won't. There teachers being laid off in several different states, California is handing out IOU's to tax payers, from what i understand NYS was late in tax refunds. You people just are not looking at things from the macro perspective. If you cant look into the Big bailouts of the banks and Wallstreet and make the connections then you deserve to be afraid. I read nothing about communities organizing to for community watch and stepping up that effort. All see is bunch of finger pointing and bellyaching about what people THINK should be happening. IT IS NOT GOING TO GET BETTER for BINGHAMTON or anywhere else because collectively the majority of you dont have clue as to what is really happening around you. And when the proof of the problem is right there in your faces you still do nothing about it. I find it very disturbing that people keep bringing children into a society that does absolutely nothing to protect them. Knowing that the overall society areound you is deteriorating right before and the only some of you can do is point fingers, take part in corrupt political system that has doomed you to a life of poverty and debt servitude. To a point where you no have Tent Cities popping up because hard working american families lost everything. but i know some of you will only read this and go back to doing nothing other than coexist with others people and groups who think the way you do all the while basking in the false perception of your existence. Guest tiny
Binghamton pd is over run with calls and they do the very best they can. If you had a poor encounter with them then you were doing something you shouldn't have anyways. They go from call to call to call with no respect. Everyone they deal with doesn't listen to them and gives the police a hard time. You guys wouldn't know what to do without them. Don't judge them until you have the guts to go out every night and deal with the scum they have to. until then, stop abusing the people who come to work everyday to protect you. I THOUGHT THERE MOTTO WAS TO PROTECT AND SERVE NOT BEAT AND CRIPPLE SOME OF THEM USE THERE BADGE TO HIDE BEHIND ,GETTING AWAY WITH STUFF AN ORDANARY PERSON WOULD GET LOCKED UP 4,THATS WHY POLICE LOST A LOT OF RESPECT..THEY SHOULD GET RID OF THOSE BAD APPLES,BUT WE ALL KNOW GOOD OR BAD THEY ALL STICK UP 4 ONE ANOTHER,SO THAT WONT HAPPEN...SOME OF THEM ARE NO BETTER THAN AND ORDANARY CRIMINAL CAUSE THEY COVER UP 4 ONEANOTHER...THE SAD PART IS IF U NEED HELP WHERE CAN U TURN WHO CAN YOU TRUST....NOT POLICE.....THATS HOW A LOT OF PEOPLE FEEL THESE DAYS AND ITS SAD.........SO I HOPE BY CUTTING SOME OF THE OFFICERS WE WEEN OUT SOME OF THE ONES THAT SHOULD OF NEVER BEEN ONE IN THE FIRST PLACE...REMEMBER IT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE PROCTECT AND SEVRE NOT BEAT AND CRIPPLE..... I think its time we all started looking out for ourselves. I see signs on Leroy St (isnt that the area the cars were broken into) I live a few blocks from there and am interested in a neighborhood watch in our neighborhood. Think BPD would have any info? How about the Mayors office? Personally I think everyone in our neighborhood should go to Dicks and buy a rifle.
