BU & our economy

The local residents don't like anyone. Most people who live here are uneducated laborers that got "left behind" when the rest of the world evolved. There aren’t going to be any more factories shooting-up to hire you lazy, labor-union protected, couch potato's. We found lots of you over in Asia and India and they complain much less and work much harder; not to mention, they're smarter.

BU is just about the ONLY thing left that generates a huge amount of revenue for this community. BU creates many good (by local standards) jobs, the students subsidize the "fallen" housing* market by pay inflated rents and contribute a lot of cash to the local economy.

The next time you see a BU student you should tell him or her how grateful you are to them for their generosity. Google "INDIA" and see how things would be without them.

• Yes, "fallen" - Binghamton is the third or fourth worst housing markets to all of America. See what CNN published today, about this wonderful place: www.money.cnn.com/pf/features/lists/hpci_data/index.html

It's not that we don't like BU, it's that we are tired of the selfish acts performed by BU students. It is the entitlement attitude and to heck with the consequences that irritates the locals. Today's event being a perfect example of that.

No one's life was endangered as the police keep crying. Some lieutenant, captain or chief made a command decision to "show 'em who's in-charge" and the thugs carried out the order (as usual). If the police are so worried about the frailty of their physical person then they should choose a different profession (they might even want to consider attending BU - if they can get in). Don't hang-out around the pool if you don't want to get wet.

How about the inconvenience to the people trying to get down the parkway to get to work. How about the accidents that were caused by this. There was no need for that protest to take over the parkway. If you want to protest, keep it on campus, or in an area that does not obstruct the day to day activities of those around you.

yeah we are gratful that the students stopped traffic on the busiest street in town to get their point across about war. How bout trying communication rather than unsafe protests. Walking down the parkway to alot of brains, did they learn that at BU?

OK, fair enough but does that mean that the KGB should come in and club everyone?

No, I guess not. They did learn that "alot" is two words though. Maybe you should just kick them out of your little town! After all, it probably took you an extra 10 minutes to get to Walmart and spend all of your public assistance. You sure did teach "industry" a good lesson ---- scared all the factories right the hell outta here.

Not a city cop (high school diploma and civil service exam). State police, yes and that's why they start at $72,000.00 per year not $28,500.

No however the students should have left the road when asked, and the students are seen in video hitting the police with the signs.

And a few bad apples spoiled it for everyone. I don't condone the behavior of the students. I certainly don't condone anyone throwing objects at police, and not because they're police, because they are human beings. Violence perpetuates violence.

Quite frankly, I expect students to act foolishly from time to time. I do not expect a police officer or any other city, state or federal employee, who by the way works for ME, to act foolishly, violently and/or unlawfully.

Vestral Police four year degree

Then pay them more. Why the hell would anyone become a Vestal Police Officer when, with a four year degree, they could be making three times as much money, even if they stayed in law enforcement (state police, FBI, etc)????

"Locals are lowlife, trailer dwelling idiots" and "students are arrogant jerks."

How many times have we seen these two overblown generalizations here??

The truth, as always, is somewhere in between.

There aren't many "lazy, labor-union protected, uneducated laborers" left here because our manufacturing base is gone.

A small handful of students act like jerks at a protest rally and everyone loses their tiny, little minds over it.

It really wasn't that big a deal.

Insulting people on this thread does nothing for your argument.

Now, I do believe that SUNY/BU is the single biggest saving grace for this town - economically speaking.

Anyone in this town that swings a hammer thinks that they're work $30/ hour. Its pure BS! I used to live in Texas where laborers were just that laborers, not skilled artisans.

Isn't this what we are spending BILLIONS of Dollars and HUNDERDS of THOUSANDS of LIVES to protect against. Have you people lost your minds?????? This is supposed to be America. Any Cop with any sense of pride for his/her country should have joined the protest. The inconvenience to all the "shoppers" is insignificant when compared to the message that was being delivered.

Participate in theAmerican dream and you won't be so bitter. Become a true American, create jobs (don't look for one)!!!

My electric chair post was high sarcasm.

Tiny minded people are losing what's left of their minds here on BCV because a handful of college kids blocked traffic for 15 minutes yesterday.

Meanwhile, more people died in the Utopia of Baghdad.

The lack of perspective here is shocking.
