2016 CALLS........58 FIRE RELATED!

OR

97% OF THEIR CALL ARE UNRELATED TO FIGHTING FIRES! 97%!!!!!!

How did things get so crazy? Is there a video of the Fire Chief admitting to this in front of a Village Dissolution Committee?

My goodness, that had to be a very difficult proposition for him.

Has the recent Matt Ryan- Lotto winning Binghamton Fire Department divulged their statistics? Just the fact that they have 40 officers for 92 firefighters should be statistical cause for a tax payer revolt. That's an officer for every 2.3 firefighters.

Or, is it 40 officers for 92 EMT ambulance attendants? Either way, it's 4 more years of it thanks to Ryan, Abdelazim, Silberstein, and a gutless City Council.

Unfortunately for us taxpayers, this fiscal insanity is now portrayed statistically, and as this entire area continues on its slide to economic oblivion, the out of touch cowardly political leaders and the "I got mine" Firefighters couldn't care less.

Well, remember this at the next election or you'll certainly remember it when your company lays you off or when you can't pay your water bill.

Ask any BFD firefighter- the first place they need to cut back is the duty chiefs. Half the time the guys on the group never see their duty chief. He is supposed to go to each station every when his group is working - Never Happens. They don't need a duty chief when they have captains and lieutenants

The firefighters are the last people to ask about cut backs. Duty chiefs or whatever and their "required" visits to each station merely reflects one glaring symptom of an absurd situation that has gone on far too long. The actual problem lies with the entire tainted civil service system and the complicit elected leaders that allow the nonsense to continue unabated and unchanged.

The ridiculous BFD officer to fighter ratio simply reflects the historical fruits of a strong union that used its power to create an outrageously expensive and indefensible career path for the good 'ol boys in blue. Nowhere else in municipal civil service does this opportunity for needless advancement exist. 5 Chiefs; A Fire Marshall; A Training Officer; 9 Captains; and 24 Lieutenants? The situation as presently exists has nothing whatsoever to do with public safety. It has everything to do with lobbying on the local and state level for more and more irregardless of affordability, gutless political leaders, and an uninformed taxpaying public that hasn't a clue as to the specifics of what they are actually paying for.

Johnson City is talking about dissolution. The state is recommending more in the line of consolidation. And incredibly, Mat Ryan, Abdleazim, Silberstein, and the cowardly City Council of Binghamton condemn the taxpayers to a 4-year continuance of the same craziness.

The union does not represent officers and does not lobby for their positions. (The firefighters contract doesnt cover officers) It is civil service and as we all know it takes an act of God to change civil service. We can however change City Hall. Just like the Governor the Mayor has the option of NOT filling vacant positions Seriously do we need 5 chiefs? What do they do? What about 24 Lts? When there is not a Captain or Lt on duty a private working is in charge. This tells me that if a private can do the job-there is no reason for these positions. Some of the privates have been on the job longer than most of the officers and know the job better anyhow.
