Why is Mayor Matthew T. Ryan cutting the ribbon at Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce Show?

Ryan was not endorsed by The Chamber.

Ryan has raised business taxes by 15% so far.

Ryan plans to raise water rates by 81% (Dec. "06 - $1.65 to Aug. "09 - $2.99) wiht no institutional or industrial rate reduction.

Binghamton open for busines or not?

If it is open for business please tell us what it has done for business?

Well, there are more businesses downtown today than when he took office. More people living there too and more people working there. Now whether he had anything to do with that, I do not know.

Absolute lies.

Tthere are more empty stores on Court Street than ever before. There are at least 22 empty store fronts from the bridge to Chenango, more if you go farther.

Again????

You're posting this AGAIN?????

We go through this at least monthly.

Let's get through it more quickly this time. How about you just admit now that you have no stats and no numbers, and that your claim is nothing more than just conjecture on your part?

Hmmmmm.. so because there are empty storefronts, you assume that there are fewer businesses and fewer people working downtown. In general it is good to come to conclusions based on facts and not on assumptions and perceptions.

It is a simple fact that there are more businesses downtown now than when he took office. It is a simple fact that more people live and work in downtown than before he took office.

Unless one deals with reality rather than perception, assumption and anecdotal evidence, before coming to conclusions - one's conclusions will always be skewed towards one's prejudices and agendas.

Yes we do go through it monthly. I have posted those stats and statistics on here many times before. Each month you try to base your facts on your assumptions and each month you lose.

You lose again.

Now I always also say that I am not certain that Ryan had anything to do with this increase, but you fight the facts so hard due to your agenda, it makes me feel as if there may just be somewthing to the claim he has something to do with it.

You keep claiming you've posted all those figures here on BCV. Yet, whenever I challenge you, you say you're tired of posting it and come up empty handed.

Why is that?

How hard is a simple copy and paste?

You're just hoping that I won't see your repetitive false claims and that other people will believe you.

What difference does it make if anyone else believes you? Downtown is still a ghost town and wannabe ghetto.

Ryan, who was going to "show the world that Bing. means business" has raised taxes, water rates and crime. How so very business friendly of him.

Grow a set and post your "stats" again.

More than half the stors on Court Stret are closed.

Many on Main Street are closed as well.

The owner of Music City specifically told The Greater Binghamtot Business Journal he could no longer do a viable business in Binghamton becuase ot the type of people hanging around his store.

His business is now thriving on the Vestal Parkway.

That is a fact.

Coffee Talk closed.

Phil's Gift closed.

There is not a retail store left in the MetroCenter. The businesses that are there now have left their other space vacant.

Quizno's closed.

Downtown is a ghost town.

I don't come up empty handed. I come up with the same reply I have beofre and that is that I have posted the documentation, and I have. You saw it, everyone else here saw it too. I am simply not going to go back and research the info again for the purpose of humoring someone who likes to come to cojnclusions baased on anecdotal evidence and assumptions ans agendas. Simple as that.

Nobody has ever seen documentation that there has been any growth downtown because it does not exist.

If you psoted it only once but can keep coming back to say the same thing, why can't you post it again?

I'll tell you why, because you never posted it in the first place.

You only need to walk down Court Stret, if you dare, to see the place is empty and disgusting.

You don't even need to do all that "research" again. If it's on a website, all you need do is post a link.

If it's on BCV, all you need do is post a link to the thread. You're online, you can navigate BCV. You should know these things. Why do you act all evasive about your "facts"?

I've seen your list and it's a list of start ups from about a year ago.

There is no comparison on it from when Ryan took office and now. There's no way you could get a comprehensive list of all businesses in operation when Ryan took office.

Conjecture. That's all you have. That's fine, as long as you don't call it "facts" or "stats." Call it what it is. A guess. I'm ok with that.

I will admit I don't have the actual numbers. I can see with my eyes, though.

To the poster with the list----Phil's Gift Shop didn't close. They moved to Hillcrest, like Music City moved to Vestal. That's worse than closing, because that's saying (like Benny did) that they have a viable business, they just can't operate it anywhere downtown without damaging it or suffering financially to the point where they'd have to consider closing.

You will never understand the difference between fact and perception. You "percieve" somthing, so you think it is fact. You have "anecdotal" evidence, so you take it as fact. You must be the kind of person who thinks that if you have a job, then the economy is great, and when you dont have a job the economy is terrible - when in fact, whether or not the economy is good or bad has nothing to do with whether you have a job or not.

The US Census Bureau estimates say Binghamton is continuing to lose population.

Even Ryan himself says one of the reasons he needs to raise water rates is because the City's population continues to decline.

The idea that the city's population is declining but somehow downtown is managing to grow, and prosper; adding jobs and population is absurd.

Talk! Talk! Talk!

I was there. Nice show. Gance's gets my vote for the best display. They had the party cookies they sell for $9 a pound. And they will do my next affair. Outstanding cookies. They ARE in Binghamton now on Old Front Street.

Worst. That would be Rogers, who had popcorn for their "customers only." Very poor.

Turning Stone resort and casino had a beautiful set-up with big bags to carry all the goodies in.

Verizon did a good job of convincing me I pay too much for Road Runner/TWC. I'll be switching my internet service tomorrow.

Tioga County had a booth. I guess they are part of Greater Binghamton now. And Enchanted Forest Water Safari, too.

Best give-away. NYSEG Solutions people handed out those pinwheels on a stick. How clever is that? Wind power, get it?

Sure, you could be like the majority of other BCV posters and think you're really so much smarter than all the rest of us.

My experience here is that people who do that are always the less intelligent ones. So we know what kind of person that makes you.

I've lost my job when the economy was great, and kept it when the economy wasn't doing well. I didn't blame the nation's economy for losing my job. Thanks for patronizing me anyways.

My "perception" is that downtown is mostly empty. It's been losing businesses for years. It certainly hasn't benefitted from any recent resurgence. For every one that opens, another closes, regardless of what you want us to believe. Granted I haven't done an actual count, but I'd bet there are as many empty storefronts as occupied ones in the area encompassed by Court, Henry and Exchange Sts.

I work a day job and don't have time drive down and do a real count. I also don't have any reason to go there either, which tells me about as much as I need to know about how well downtown is doing. In fact, the only time I'm downtown is once a month when I play in a band on State St.

Ryan isn't "good for business" and he's doing just the opposite of "showing the world bing. means business."

In the last year, crime, taxes and water rates have increased rather substantially. Go ask any businessperson downtown if that fills them with encouragement and hope for the future.

Just because you dont think more people work there now than when he took office, does not make it so.

Like I said, I dont think he had mush to do with it, or at least there are no "facts" that I know of linking him to that. but the fact of the matter is, it is true - more people live there - work there and there are more businesses than when he took over. I have no vested interest in my posts, in fact, I did not wupport him, nor vote for him. I supported and voted for Naima (he says with some embarrasment). I am also not a fan of Ryan. I do not like his management style, nor his politics, and to be homest, I think he would get it right more often if he flipped a coin. I even sent him one in the mail with a note telling him "the next time you have to make a decision, flip this coin and you will get it right more often than using your judgement"

Sure there are more people working in Binghamton after Ryan took office. They're all working for city hall! Ed, you can't argue with that Ryan puppet. The puppet always says the facts were posted several times, but anyone who has seen this same old tired argument knows that's a lie. The hilarious part is they can't be bothered to post those "facts" again, yet they're always making sure they post their canned responses to you every day. As always, they're full of crap.

Even if I were to concede that you're right, there certainly isn't more than 2 or 3 businesses more. And any increase in residency would be poverty level people.

There's nothing but nuts, drunks and addicts on the streets now.
