Just another example of how totally out of touch he is with people in his home district. His phony populism is sickening-I for one am tired of hearing of his humble roots. Is it any wonder that Maurice is seemingly unconcerned in any meaningful way other than "blame the other party rhetoric" about gas /oil prices (according to the NY times his gas is taxpayer funded as well) It really is time to vote most of our elected reps of both parties (are you listening Tom Libous you arrogant a-hole)state and federal-OUT! He is a walking, breathing example of why these people need to go!

It's time for us taxpayers to buck up and get our own representative of the oligarchy a more suitable automobile. We must to present him with a Maybach, Bentley or Rolls. To have him touring in a lowly BMW is embarrassing for our district, it makes us appear cheap. A BMW should only be provided to positions of less station, such as Communications Director or Yoof Cownzler.

We also pay his salary, his pension, health insurance, and anything else lifelong politicians get!

Same for the school systems in Broome County! Let's see: my Town and County taxes went up in January, my water bill will be going up this year bigtime, my school taxes will increase bigtime ( due to CV's inept accounting, and trying to hide as long as they could from the taxpayers), my gasoline budget has gone through the roof, as has my grocery budget. I drive a 12 year old car that I keep maintained, it has a little rust on it, but it is paid for. I run my errands usually all in one day, and do them in a circle so I end back up at home, the rest of the week my car stays in the garage. My husband & I eat at home, I like to cook so healthy eating is not a problem. We eat out occasionally, never at fast food places though. I use coupons when I can, watch for sales where I shop, find great buys at thrift shops on nice clothes, and love garage sales.

NOW HERE IS THE THING!! MY HUSBAND & I ARE RETIRED! I worked until I was 65+6mos., I had no "golden parachute", my only "salary" is social security once a month, my "pension" is my 401K I earned/ and funded myself, my "health insurance" is Medicare, with a Medicare Advantage supplement that I pay a monthly premium and copays for and the monthly Medicare deduction that automatically comes out for Medicare. We are still pretty healthy, and it is in our best interest to stay that way.

I AM NOT COMPLAINING, THIS IS MY REALITY! But when I hear politicians and teachers complain because they should pay their own pension ( yes they should), and pay for at least 51% of their health insurance (yes they should), and drive an economical vehicle ( yes they should), and SAVE THE TAXPAYERS SOME MONEY? What do you think?

By the way, my rebate will be going to put gas in our car to drive to FL to see our new granddaughter and spend time with family. And how is your day going??

Yes, but I remember when either John $olak or Steve Gar1ock interviewed Rep. Hinchey over by the Federal Courthouse on their cable TV show that used to air on Friday evenings (sometime in either Fall 2007 or Fall 2006 as I recall), it was mentioned that "the" BWM is armored (that certainly wouldn't serve to help the gas mileage, now would it?) and has bullet-proof glass. This came out when the Congressman was asked to the effect of, "Why not 'Buy American'?" (Hinchey replied to the effect that no domestically-manufactured car meets the security needs of a Congressman from the State of New York).

In our post-9/11 world, we certainly want to adequately protect our long-serving Congressman, don't we? He's at the forefront of trying to hold the Bush Administration accountable for its the damage to the world, our Country's image, and our society's economy. IMO, he deserves great credit for this and has earned my vote. (Wouldn't we face some negative consequences if Rep. Hinchey were replaced by a freshman Congressman or Congresswoman? I mean, the man does have some substantial "pull" -- especially if the next President is a Democrat. Isn't that the main advantage for us to keep re-electing him in the future?)

I have to believe you are being very sarcastic. Hinchey will blame everything on Bush in order to take the blame away from him and his cohorts. The truth of the matter is, Bush has only been in office for 7 years and NY has been in the crapper for 20+ years.

The only way to make NY a good place to live is to send liberals of both partys, i.e., Hinchey, Schumer, Silver, Bruno, Libous, and LuPardo PACKING!

Hinchey has absolutely no pull in the United States Congress. He's served in the House for 16 years yet he isn't the ranking member or chair of anything. He sits on the Appropriations Committee.. thats it.

Two more years? No thank you. I'll be voting for George Phillips.

This should be front page news at all newspapers in Hincheys district.....The editorial boards should be hammering on this. The local TV shows should be "outraged" and try to question Hinchey on this. If they don't why dont they? Becuase they like his liberal bent? It is OK when one of our guys do this?

What do you mean, "one of our guys"? Are you assuming that everyone who reads and posts on BC Voice is a conservative?

No reason "Uncle Tom Tom" shouldn't have the same level of protection as Rep. Maurice "How'd that loaded hand gun get in my carry-on bag?" Hinchey.

Both of them are liberals. Therefore, neither one of them should have any protection at all. Anyone who chooses to be a liberal automatically forfeits their rights.

Libous isn't the best Conservative, but if he drives a BMW, it still doesn't make him a hypocrite like Hinchey. Hinchey has voted to mandate that we drive a vehicle that must average 35 mpg. His BMW 530i gets 21.

To my knowledge, Tom Libous has never told me what to drive.

There is something missing from this Hinchey thread.

Whenever somebody points out a what an arrogant, hypocritical, socialist Maurice Hinchey is, somebody always comes to his defense and says something like, "I like Hinchey. I will continue to vote for him."

This individual never has any substance behind their argument. They obviously depend on some taxpayer funded paycheck. He/she is probably a government paper pusher or is on welfare. Liberal fascism doesn't bother this person. His/her only defense is that we are somehow filled with hate instead rational points of criticism.

I do not believe that Libous gets a BMW, paid for by the taxpayers.

His SUV is paid for by his campaign fund.

Hinchey, however, is driving OUR vehicle - while telling us what we may drive. I can't stand him (and I'm a Democrat!)

I was wrong. I thought Hinchey wanted to mandate that you and I drive a car that gets 35 mpg.

After a little research, I found the summary of the April 2007 "Energy for our Future Act" sponsored by Congressmen Maurice Hinchey and Christopher Shays:

http://www.house.gov/shays/news/2007/April/efofa.pdf

It was House Resolution 1945, and he wants our cars to average 40 mpg by 2016. That means everyone will drive Toyota Yaris, Corollas, Honda Civics, or a hybrid.

I personally don't have a problem with these cars. We own one. However, for him to get out of a 21 mpg BMW and tell us, "I'm doing my part" strains his credibility.

It wouldn't be the government's fault that U.S. automakers don't offer fuel-efficient U.S. made cars, would it?

We all need to take a hard look at how our choices impact the environment. If the government is looking out for the air quality of the nation that's something to be proud of.

When you watch the Beijing Olympics this summer, keep an eye out to see how polluted the air is over there. (If you like breathing smog, move to New Jersey or LA).
