Aphoristically Moderate
Senator Schumer, today, commented that Saudi Arabia should increase their production to bring gas prices down. "There is one way to get the prices of oil down and it's two words... Saudi Arabia, If they were to increase 800,000 barrel every day, the price would come down probably 35 to 50 cents a gallon," said Schumer. "That's a lot." http://www.ny1.com/ny1/content/index.jsp?s...3&aid=81230 However, one week ago, Senator Schumer said that drilling in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge is "plain wrong." He said it would take 10 years before any new oil could be produced, and even then it would lower the gas price by "Only one penny a gallon." http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/Top_News/2008...he_people/3444/ First of all, it almost certainly wouldn't take 10 years. Second, we would have access to that oil right now if Bill Clinton hadn't vetoed the measure in 1994. Third, ANWR is estimated to be able to produce 1,000,000 barrels per day. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arctic_Refuge...ing_controversy So, the question to Mr. Schumer is: If an additional 800,000 barrels from Saudi Arabia would bring our gas price down by 35 to 50 cents, why would 1,000,000 barrels from Alaska only bring the price down by a penny? The West Sider
He and the other politicians could stop excessively taxing everything in NY and drop it by the same margin. TWS
Guest another guest
Please, don't confuse Chuckie (out of my way, there's the TV camera) Schumer with logic. EVERYTHING he does is ONLY about POLITICS. . God forbid he actually consider the needs of the country. ANWR should not be confused with some type of disney-fied wildlife park-there are millions of acres of NOTHING there! Drilling would involve a few 1000 acres of the entire area...But, its easier to play to the cameras. thanks, Chuck you DELETED
Guest Guest
Maybe senator Schumer thinks most of the oil in Alaska would go to foreign countries. Since Bush is friends with the Saudi government, most of their oil would be shipped directly to us.
