Seems many teams are down this year. The teams from last year that did well was Oneonta, Vestal, SV. WIll be interesting to see how they do this year. Vestal and SV are loaded with Senior starters any Oneonta always is in the mix.

i would disagree that vestal or oneonta did well. vestal lost in stac semis and the sectional final and for vestal thats embarrassing especially being an "A" school. oneonta lost to SV in sectional final and the STAC championship means nothing. SV had a great season going to state semis. SV hands down had the best season of these 3 teams.

Honest Assessment

STAC Divisional Races

West- Corning should repeat- Elmira lost too many goals, Ithaca looked down vs Vestal and Horseheads just hasn't been able to put a full season together in quite a while

Metro- Vestal should win- UE and especially Binghamton would struggle to compete with the smaller schools let alone larger teams. M-E could be there but will depend on if the coach is focused on his club teams more or the HS Boys team.

Central- JC should be there again, SV and Owego are solid but SV graduated a lot of talent and the 3rd coach in 3 years will hurt Owego. Seton is way down and will be lucky to get 4 wins this year.

East- As always the weakest division in the league Oneonta will walk like SV used to in the old days. CF/Windosr will fight for #2 and CV is probably the weakest in that half of the league (CV/Bing would be a tight game).

The new league schedule for East/Central changes things a lot. No undefeated seasons or one loss teams over there anymore Oneonta will face JC/Owego/SV twice and that should give them all at least a harder season.

Section 4 stuff

AA- Probably the worst AA group in area history- Horseheads, Elmira, UE, Ithaca, Binghamton are all down in talent its possible that only 2 teams qualify with new rules on records and someone has to win..whoever it is will go home quick. Elmira v Ithaca in final

A- With Corning dropping to A its a huge fight with Vestal and M-E also in the race. M-E is 2 time champ but Corning won AA last year. New Vestal coach has his work cut out for him to win, which is always that programs expectation. JC & Owego will be able to qualify but playing weak small school teams won't prepare them for this title.

B- A big fight between Oneonta and SV with a possible surprise from Dryden. I didn't see the SV run last year coming especially after Oneonta got hot in STAC playoffs and won the title. 10 teams in this class but only 5 will probably make Sectionals-One,SV,Dry,CF,Windsor (Norwich, WP, Waverly, CV and Newark Valley all stay home for Sectionals)

  • 2 weeks later...

Looks like a crazy season so far in STAC, only two unbeatens (Vestal & SV) but they were both tied 1-1 by teams so there will be no perfect seasons. The West is a complete toss up just like last season, right now all 4 teams are still in the race and most likely they will need a tiebreaker to decide it again. The big surprise is Horseheads really playing well and looking to contend with the other schools. Vestal has pretty much got the Metro all to themselves, M-E is way down, U-E isnt much better and Binghamton is possibly the worst team in the league. The Central has SV but Owego looks really good and seems to be scoring a ton of goals. They lost to Oneonta but then went on a run, JC seems to be falling apart thought they should have been much better. Seton is way below for them, squeaking by CV is not a good sign for that program. The East has Oneonta running away already, they have an easier path than Vestal does Forks and Windsor are a distance away, CV dopped its chance to win vs Seton and could be facing a winless season unless they win that rematch.

Vestal is going to run the table. State Champs!!!!!

Well running the table doesn't include a tie with Horseheads which you already did so time to rethink your season goal.

West- 3 teams Corning, Ithaca and Horseheads are alive-looks like Corning has the inside path but its not going to be easy.

Metro- Vestal has already clinched unless they lose to Bing in the second match. Their issue is goals, sure they can score 15 against Bing but are struggling against everyone else. It is what cost them last year and looks to still be a problem.

Central- SV is in front but the race there isn't over, they have struggled to win a bunch of games and pulled out too many late comebacks, not sure why JC has fallen apart and Owego could still be in it.

East- Oneonta has it in the bag, no chance for anyone else

The West still seems to be a four team race after Elmira's win over M-E last night. However, Corning and Ithaca clearly are the front runners of that division. The only hold up is that Corning hasn't played Vestal yet so they still have two games against them. The second Corning/Ithaca match up could be huge.

2 weeks into the season is considered the halfway point of the season??? LMAO

The season is over 5 weeks into it already, just because football only plays once a week and it takes 3 weeks before they get a game doesn't mean other sports haven't played quite a bit. There are 2 weeks left in the regular season with most teams playing 6 games in those 14 days, after that its on to Sectionals where your season ends with your first loss, some teams could have a solid 4-5 weeks left after the regular season ends.
