STAC Boys Soccer

Are u serious?! It is Riley or Cristos.

Hate to burst your bubble but Hristos team has never won anything. He has 0 STAC and 0 Sectional crowns while having good talent for years. Looking at the talent he has had and the lack of titles he can't be mentioned in the conversation. What other HS coach in this area had a striker who is now a first division pro in Europe but never won anything with him?

The fact that Riley may not even qualify for Sectionals this year says a lot. He took over a program with talent and won 2 Sectional titles but this season he has been outcoached many times. He is trying to rely on the same old tactic- sit defense deep. clear the ball long or out, hope to get a goal and win 1-0 but his players don't fit that style. If he was focused on his team and not teenage girls right now he may have done something. For now he's a one dimensional coach who has to prove he can actually change. If he bounces back he deserves to be mentioned near the top but not a clear choice by any means.

Elmira coach deserves to be mentioned as a top candidate, Oneonta coach deserves to be mentioned as a top candidate, other than that maybe if their teams keep winning for another year or two Corning and SV coaches could get into the conversation. However clearly the best HS Coach in Section 4 is the guy from Lansing, he hasn't lost an in Section game for 3 years and his small school team could play with anyone of the large school teams. They might not beat them but they would give them all a game.

As for the Elmira kid saying they are hot and on a roll AA title bound, get real please. You beat M-E (3-4) Horseheads (3-5-1) and U-E (3-5-1). If it had been Ithaca, Corning and Vestal it would have meant something but beating teams with losing records doesn't show very much. Ithaca is still the favorite over you and Cornig would be as well if they weren't going to win A.

The Lansing coach? Please. They play in the IAC. Anyone that has that much talent can win many games. Just like Murphy and Vestal for years. Not saying they don't know anything about the game but neither EVER developed ANY of the talent they had. They show up and coach for two months and see you next season. It is all about how many club kids you have. Period.

On the boys side (STAC/IAC) there are only 4 or 5 varsity coaches that actually coach club or other things to make their program better. Those 4 or 5 have extensive resumes beyond high school that make the those that win and do nothing look like beginners.

Guys like Murphy, Heck, Materese, Holleran, Stepo and any other coach that have never coached anything beyond high school to develop or build credibility have an asterisk next all of their wins. Bottom line these guys need to give credit to all of the club and odp coaches that made there programs what they are.

Stop using the age old argument of the most wins makes you a great coach. When you actually take time to develop beyond the season your team and yourself as a coach and not ride the coat tales then you can take asterisk off your name.

75% of the coaches in STAC/IAC Can't run a proper practice. Here is the a typical session for most.

---scrimmage the entire time

---Running long distances or the almost the entire time

---can't train soccer specific fitness

---never shut up or stop and talk too much

---making their players stand around in lines or not getting enough touches in the ball

---cant teach tactics or the actual system they are playing.

---the knowledge is so poor that they do the same thing everyday or ask their players what to do

---almost all don't know how to develop a practice from start to finish. This is because of a lack as a result of no coaching education.

---shadow play, technical vs tactical, functional, position specific, coaching in the game, zonal defending as a team or four in the back are all topics or forms of training that are not taught because of lack of knowledge.

Most could not even tell you what the above means.

Great coaches develop players through proper training, make training simulate the game and do it year round.

Here is the youth hierarchy for the GREAT COACHES HS AND HS COACHES THAT DO NOTHING"

PRE USSF ACADEMY

ODP REGIONAL/STATE

HIGH LEVEL CLUB

CLUB

Properly run sessions that DEVELOP your talent for you.

The above are what builds your programs and gets your wins for you.

So please take note and educate yourselves on the truth and get yourself involved BEYOND the two months you coach.

You apparently don't know anything about Adam Heck from Lansing, he has an extensive off season set up to work with his players. His training is top notch and he has worked with many programs outside of HS soccer. If you think he hasn't worked to develop the talent he has you have no idea about that program and I lost a lot of respect for the rest of your post because of it.

The following boys/girls current coaches (STAC/IAC) are the most developed, educated, best trainers, and most respected well beyond the high school game:

BOYS: Cristos, Riley, Hamilton, Brennan, Mastronardi, Hudock, and Brian Adams

GIRLS: Sarno (Elmira) and Ferguson (HHS)

9 Quality coaches that have learned how to coach and have worked well beyond high school. All of these guys have coached at the highest youth levels and/or college. No other current/past high school coach can compare in this area.

Herrick, Rinker, and Mydlinski are the legends of our area and meet the qualifications with the above group. They developed their players in high school, were educated, and worked at all youth levels.

Adam Heck has never coached TC United, Waza, or Ithaca travel nor any club in the Syracuse or Binghamton area to develop anything. Nor Odp. What licenses does he have?

All Lansing players have been developed by the above clubs and odp not Adam Heck.

Enlighten us on his Extensive résumé beyond Lansing.

Please spare me the pick up practices.

And Heck coaching the ancient/worthless Empire State Games doesn't count. You practice twice and play games.

  • 2 weeks later...

Playoff time is almost here and the races are done just a few games to sort out the matchups but it looks pretty much set

SV at Vestal- SV has the best record in the league but played a lot of comeback and close games. Vestal has struggled with a few teams (Ithaca, Corning, Horseheads) but handled everyone else pretty easy. Not sure SV has the depth to play with Vestal for a full game, but their whole season has been a surprise already. Don't think anyone thought they would be this good after losing Rood. If Vestal doesn't score early could be an upset here, but I think the Bears will take it.

Oneonta at Corning (rematch of last years title game)- Outside of the surprising 5-0 win over SV, Oneonta has not looked like they were close to last years team and Corning has looked better. Way more comfortable in the new coaches system with a year of play now in the books. I think Corning will avenge last years loss and make the title game.

Final- Corning at Vestal- Corning wins a preview of the Class A Sectional Final -
