Big local baseball news

U.E. grad James Johnson had six up and six down as he registered another HOLD in the O's close victory over the Pirates. Johnson lowered his ERA to a sparkling 1.24, which is second in the league for pitchers with over 30 innings pitched. Only Riviera has a lower ERA. Johnson may get some ALL STAR consideration.

Not hating on your interest in this local player who made it big, because by all means it is important that he be recognized for this, but perhaps we could make one thread just named ''Jim Johnson News'' or something of the sort, and everytime he pitched, you could post in that one? It seems like it would make sense instead of the 100's of Johnson threads.

That would be great.

Not being a close follower of the game, I have to ask. Do rookie relief pitchers ever make the all-star team? I know rookies at some positions do, but it seems to me a rookie reliever in the summer classic would be the rarest.

Rookie pitchers have an easier time then position players because the fans pick the position players and the managers pick the pitching staff. Johnson is a 8th inning specialist and not many of those guys make the all stars. Every team must have at least one player on the All star squad. Johnson has a chance because none of the hitters on Baltimore deserve it, nor do the starting pitchers, whoch leaves it between Johnson and their talented closer.

I may be wrong, but I believe that is no longer true and they changed that policy a few years ago.
