Guest Guest
Absolutely. Since Webb has no management experience whatsoever, let's give her a city job in addition to her council position. BTW, can she hold both without a conflict of interest?
Guest Guest
I thought these were CIVIL SERVICE jobs and their are rules and regulatioins in obtaining such jobs. Is Mayor Matt Ryan (Mental Defect) so into cronyism that he is above rule, law and proper procedures?????
Guest Guest
This was posted on BCVoice a short while ago that Doofus Rainbow Ryan was to appoint Lea Webb Citizen Action groupie to this post. It was mentioned here on BCVoice that Dave Watkins was to retire and Webb was going to get her post.
Guest Guest
Can a City employee hold a seat on City Council or be appointed AFTER being elected to City Council without giving up his/her seat?

Guest Trump
You cannot collect two paychecks from the city. She would have to resign from council.
Guest Guest
Why would she have to resign? How many cops, firemen (jc is notorious for this) and city employees hold positions in the same city they represent. It should put in closer touch with your constituency, but usually it works the other way around. Being qualified enough to get a regular job and then being elected to a position may mean that you are more likely to do a better job. But this incident is outright pathetic!!! Where did this Lea Webb go to school? Does she have any experience in "personel"? If city council approves this sham on the people of Binghamton, then maybe you should stop blaming the questionable actions of this mayor, start attending the meetings and speak out to these sheep-like council-members. Actually, zero. You may be thinking of people who work for cities or villages and also the county. Mark Whalen is probably the best example. He is a fireman for the city, and serves on the county legislature. That's perfectly legal. However, had Whalen of been elected Mayor, he would have had to retire from the department and the legislature. As it's illegal to collect two pay checks from one municipality, and it's illegal to work for two branches of government. Section 19 of Article 3 of Second Class Cities Law says: "No person shall, at the same time, hold more than one city office."
Neighborhood Disassembly
And of course don't forget "East Side Eddie" Collins who works for the County while serving as a City Councilman.
Guest Trump
And of course don't forget "East Side Eddie" Collins who works for the County while serving as a City Councilman. Indeed Collins is another notorious example. Not only does the councilman work for the county, but it was widely believed he would be named commissioner of public works in a Whalen or Massar administration. That's a problem with Democratic politics in Broome County, it's the same recycled group over and over again. In the Webb situation, you mean to tell me: 1) She's done such an outstanding job in her three months on council that Ryan needs her full time at city hall? 2) There's no one else capable of doing this job? 2pelo Honey
http://www.cityofbinghamton.com/library/pa...%20Director.pdf Hope that comes across. I believe her campaign flyers said she'd graduated from BU, but I don't recall if the degree was mentioned? So, is this confirmed that she's gotten this position? Guest Guest
Public scrutiny should be brought to bear. That would mean contacting your local "news" media and writing a few letters, don't stop at one. Eventually they will have no choisce but to look into it. Do not count on Ryan or Webb to do the right thing. That will never happen.

Guest Trump
$50,000/year to take Watkins job... or $7,500/year plus whatever little money she makes at Citizen Action to keep up her thankless job on council. This should be a "no brainer". Although, it really comes down to what Webb has planned for her future. Does she want a future in politics? If so, she turns down the job, and looks like a woman of conviction and sound civic duty. Furthermore, after the stories the Press and Sun Bulletin recently ran on Webb during black history month, she would look like a self-serving hypocrite to resign her council job after only a few months (and one of the most heated and contentious elections in recent history). My guess: Lea stays at Citizen Action and remains on council. She cannot possibly be dumb enough to turn her back on her district after all the grandstanding she did during the election. Guest Trump
After listening to her communications skills, the question is: Do YOU think she has a future in politics? honestly??? After watching a few meetings, it's apparent she likes to "echo the sentiments" of other council members. She doesn't seem to have confidence in herself in the town hall setting. She seems overly nervous when simply asking for approval of meeting minutes. However, she's still young; speaking ability can improve over time. It is a Human Resources job for which she is very liekly unqualified (big surprise). Anyone can become a politician in this town (no qualifications necessary, just look around), but the public and the non-elected employees at City Hall who this person will oversee deserve to have a person in that postion with a degree and experience in HR! If Webb takes or even applies for this job, she is backpeddling on all her campaign rhetoric, which was clearly written for her by someone else.
