My response:

Now that Tarik Abdelazim has botched the contracts with Teamster, Civil Servants and Firefighters, locking this last group into a four-year,14% increase NOW Abdelazim plans to compare costs to other cities!

A 42% increase in water, that's about the same as Ryan's increase in violent crime.

This Doofus says, "Four "Partnership for Change" commissions he introduced during his State of the City address would provide recommendations that would "help the city become fiscally strong for the long term."

Is he a joke or what?

Why bother why recommnedations, Ryan will just keep spending and hiring.

The City of Binghamton is now paying for two Code Enforcements Officers so Ryan and Abdelazim could lie and say the Blight Coordinator and Sustainable Development Coordinator are not costing the city taxpayers anything.

$68,000 and counting on Ana Shaleo-Johnson a Youth Director the City doesn't need and cannot afford.

$68,000 so far on a Communication/Community Rrelations Director, A&W Block the Vassar sorority girl from NYC another needless position.

$100,000 on a needless and redundant, poorly operating unsustainbble Municiipal wifi system that was suppose to cost $58,000. Ryan and Abdlelazim spent $75,000 to get $25,000 for somthing they don't need.

These same clowns accepted a bid on The Regency Hotel for $1,000,000 less that an earlier offer and so far we have yet to see a dime and there are eight days left on a 90-day sales contract. The City of Binghamton is spending at least $5000 on month on The Regency and probably losing more money every day it stays open especially in the winter with utlity costs.

We have twice the firefighters and twice the stations we need. We spend about $2,000,000 MORE per YEAR (over $13,000,000) on firefighting than we should, more per capita than any town or city in the country.

Ryan still wants to extend the RiverLark, whcih will cost the City of Binghamton at least $800,000.

He wants to build a Court Street Roundabout that will turn downtown further into a pedestrian ghost town, that will cost the City a $2,000,000 share.

Some idiot at City Hall, probably Jim Dessauer, cost the City $300,000 when they allowed half the O'Neil-Ross Building (Bucci-Ryan Monument) to stand.

Business taxes have risen 15% in two years.

Now water costs rise 42%.

All this confirms Matthew T. Ryan is the worst incompetent to ever run the City of Binghamton. He is an embarrassment that will humiliate and ruin the City. It will not survive his full term.

City plans 42% rise in water rates

Mayor to address proposed increase today

By John Hill and Nancy Dooling

Press & Sun-Bulletin

The City of Binghamton is proposing a 42 percent increase in water rates, effective Aug. 1.

The proposed rate would increase 89 cents to $2.99 per 100 cubic feet. The current rate is $2.10.

Mayor Matthew T. Ryan scheduled an 11 a.m. press conference for today at City Hall to discuss the rate increase.

City Comptroller John Cox blamed the rate increase on the rising cost of materials used for water filtration -- pushed up by "unprecedented" increases in energy prices.

City Director of Communications Andrew Block said the proposed increase is "on par" with other cities in the region that own and operate filtration plants, as Binghamton does. Norwich charges $3.23; Elmira, $2.89; and Ithaca, $2.91, according to data provided by the city.

Town of Dickinson Supervisor Michael Marinaccio, whose town buys a portion of its water from the City of Binghamton, said the increase in water rates would cost Dickinson about $30,000 more per year. The town now pays the city $80,000 for water. The increase would bring the cost to about $110,000, Marinaccio said.

Marinaccio estimated that Dickinson customers could pay more than $100 more per year for their city-supplied water.

Ryan acknowledged that the city faces significant fiscal challenges. He said four "Partnership for Change" commissions he introduced during his State of the City address would provide recommendations that would "help the city become fiscally strong for the long term."

The mayor will host a public information session next week for residents to raise questions or comment on the water rate, Block said. The date of the session was not finalized Wednesday evening.

Guest Special Ed

I can see why a water rate increase in the City might be of concern to your Binghamton based laundry employer. Maybe you can make water rates and savings one of the 'special projects' you do for the Kradjians. I propose that we call you 'Special Ed' from now on to remind us all of the special work you do.

Why don't I see a proposal for the City to institute a direct withdrawal out of my paycheck every week, too?

That's what it will take now.

I just bought this house 4 years ago. I'm putting it on the market.

The water consumption and far greater monitoring of it is already being addressed with help of new, NY state-based equipment from Braun in Syracuse. In fact we started about a year ago.

Also the manner in which the City of Binghamton accounts for sewage is incorrect. It assumes 100% of the water going into the operation comes out. That is incorrect because about 30% is lost in processing.the City doesn't meter seawge. The onus for that is placed on the consumer. The capital costs up front for retro-fitting this metering is expensive.

That is also being addressed.

Hospitals, cliinc and nursing homes should also consider that their on-premises laundries are far less efficient than an industrial laundry plant and they can greatly lower their utlity costs by outsourcing their laundry to professionals.

Only 42% increase????

Why not 142%?

42% won't even begin to pay for Tarik's girlfriend's legal fees.

Let's make the garbage bags $15 each. People should conserve more.

Perhaps we could monitor the oxygen intake of resident and tax them for that?

We have to find money to give Jim Dessauer a raise.

City of Binghamton Oxygen tax: Dear Citizen Smith: You have 4 residents living at your residence. 2 Adults and 2 children: The Binghamton Oxygen Tax is $50.00 per each Adult and $25.00 for Every Child under Age 16. The Oxygen Tax is due Quarterly. Therefore your Oxygen Tax is $150.00 a Quarter or $600.00 Per Year!

This administation will immediately approach Binghamton City Council to gain the approval of funds for the creation of a City Oxygen Director and two assistant coordinators. These positions will become active in July of 2008 as to allow our chosen candidates time to complete high school. The experience and knowledge they bring will be a valuable asset to our team.

Thank You.

Soon all occupied buildings in the area will house either adminstration from Binghamton University and adminstration from the City of Binghamton. There are more of them than there are people they are supposed to "admininster" to. There are so many of them that they really deserve their own city except that would not be fair because both groups should be forced to live in this crapy one.
