People on Salary

I'm salaried as well. I can not remember the last time I worked 40 hours or less in a week. I usually work 10-15 hours extra each week with nothing to show for it other than a job well done. Being salaried is not all it's cracked up to be. It's nice when you have appointments that you don't have to burn vacation time to go to them, but that time is more than made up for in unpaid extra hours.

The basic premise here is that salaried employees have to stay late and finish the jobs that don't get done and fix the screwups the hour wage earners make.

They cant be that much of a poor stiff if they are still in business. So on that note, until you get your worthless, DELETED off from welfare, keep your typing to yourself. Get off Dads computer, its time for his porn session.

If you stopped worrying about other people and started worrying about yourself you may be successful enough one day to be promoted to a salaried position.

Just some food for thought.

Food for thought is working construction at an hourly rate and there is no way I would ever give up my overtime for a salaried position. at $53 an hour. You can wear all the suits and ties you want, but I enjoy my cars, my boat and my Harley and I can do all this by getting dirty and wearing jeans and T-shirts and still get a good tan and a cold one after work. And stay in shape. And all my bosses are cool and have a great sense of humor Be on time and do your time!. Stuff shirts? Bah!

You obviously used to own a company and couldn't control your workers.

Don't wonder why you failed with that philosophy.

It may not be illegal to work more than 40 hrs in a week and not collect OT.

It all depends on how the companies work week-pay scale is set up. For example...

I manage a company and have people that work a 80 hr (2 week) pay period. If they work 60 hrs in the first week, we only allow them to work 20 hrs the next week, so as to not pay the OT.

It's a bunch of crap and not fair in my opinion, but I have no say in the situation! Sorry, it sucks, but it's legal.

The secret is, if you already worked the 40 hrs in the first week of the pay period, suck up the OT the next week!! If it's the first week of the period, tell 'em to go suck tomatoe seeds.

Sorry but your company is in violation of the labor laws. A hourly employee that works over 40 hour PER WEEK must get paid time and a half regardless if the pay is weekly, bi-weekly, monthly ect. There are exemptions to this rule... firefighters, police ect. If you are working overtime and and an hourly employee, check with the labor board if you are not getting paid time and a half after 40 per week. With proof, you can get back wages.

As far as salaried employees go, a friend of mine was telling me of an hourly employee who complained about him coming in at 11am when she has to be there at 830 am. He asked her how her dinner was last night and if she enjoyed her family's company the whole evening. She said yes and then he said that he was glad because he did not leave his office until after she went to bed last night. She didn't say another word.
