myles your slip is showing..the spartans play in the metro not the central..however that depicts your fairness when commenting on the spartans..no matter who or where they play..their winning is deminished..get real..winning three straight dwi championships, beating six local foes without a misstep is choking?? please show some dignity..jc perhaps the best team in this area did not beat a much inferior pats team in the dwi because they just did not come to play..the spartans win six straight and you disparage them??. no one is tooting a horn..all facts displayed here are just facts..no imbellishing, no implorements win this opr win that, win here or win there,,,just facts myles, not fiction...

Let their play speak for them - the Spartans are very competitive - Nate Burgo is a beast. Clearly one of the best players in the area who can play anywhere on the court!

Seton at JC tomorrow night. I know Seton will show up. I hope JC decides to also.

This is the game of the year, SCC - JC, no question about it.

JC had a bad 10 days in mid- to late December, but that is ancient history. They appear to have rebounded from that funk they were in, and now it's time for them to show that they really are a top flight team. And tonight is the perfect set up for them, a red-hot SCC invading the Wildcats den. SCC is 10-1, and it just so happens that the one loss they have was at the hands of ... the JC Wildcats, a one-point victory over the Saints in November in the Oneonta Drago tournament.

Talk about great and intriguing matchups, tonight's game has just that. Seton plays almost exclusively man-to-man, so Seton's first objective will be to keep JC's Ian Pettiford on the perimeter as much as possible, and not allow him to penetrate into the lane, where he could cause a lot damage with his one-on-one moves, his ability to lay off to Powell and Clark underneath, or his drawing defenders away from 3-point sharpshooters Troy Robinson and Grant Vicks (as well as Clark) so that they can have open attempts from behind the arc. The burden will mostly fall on SCC's John Armstrong, although it is not out of the question for Tom Torto to match up with Pettiford as well.

Then the SCC tandem of Bob Garbade and Cole Smothers pair up against Rashawn Powell and Ryan Clark. SCC has the size advantage, but Powell's quickness and agility may be able to fully negate the height advantage of Seton's big men, and Clark is versatile enough score in the low post as well as from 3-point land. It will be interesting to see if JC tries to take Garbade and Smothers (and Jarell Regan as well, should the match up present itself) away from the basket, and especially Powell, try to take the Seton big men off the dribble.

On the other side, JC, like everyone else in the Southern Tier, has to try to figure out who to match up with Tom Torto. Troy Robinson is a fine athlete and very good basketball player, but he would be giving up 4" or 5" inches in height, and Torto may not have any problems shooting over the smaller defender. Alternatively, Ian Pettiford may be matched up with Torto, which is a better size matchup, but that takes Pettiford away from pressuring the Seton primary ballhandler, John Armstrong (although Robinson is no fence post as a defender, he can pressure the ball pretty well), which would make it easier for SCC to get into their offense. If that becomes the case, Bob Garbade becomes an even bigger factor on offense, allowing Seton more time on the shot clock to look into him. Garbade is coming off a very good against Norwich, and he should be confident in his offensive game. If SCC gets the ball into him down low, he will obviously have to do something with the ball when he gets it, including drawing fouls on JC's big men. Then it will be up to Garbade to convert at the free throw line. With all that said, don't be surprised if JC also changes up their defense by going to various zones to force SCC to beat them from the perimeter. This is where Armstrong, Smothers and Jarell Regan have to become factors for SCC if they are to counteract JC's zone.

The reality is that JC probably needs this game more than Seton (although Seton won't play like that), since Seton will have no problem winning their division, while JC is in a battle with Norwich for their division lead. This could be a preview of the STAC Championship game (apologies to U-E, and Corning, among others), and both teams have set lofty goals for themselves (that is, making some serious noise in the state tournament in their respective classes, Class B for SCC, Class A for JC). And, there is a little bit of a rivalry between the two schools, so that will add some gasoline to the fire. Look for a great game tonight, and don't be surprised if the game comes down to the last two or three possessions (or less).

like cossell...too verbose and mostly blowhearted...do you, and you do ..think sinickiwould pull his six foot ten allstar away from the basket??..get real..besides garbade would be uselesssix feet from the basket...jc will do little underneath..unless they get a friendly whistle, which none of setons foes usually get..also torto is very guardable..it is no coincidence he came up lame against the best coached team in the league..at his gym by the way..torto does not shoot a usual jump shot..though super accurate he does not use much lift to get it off..robinson without having to worry about helping off torto could holkd him in check..will pick seton..more poised, players listen to coach and they have a six foot ten big man...

Really, is it 1 person who keeps making this ridiculous statement or are there a lot of really dumb people. When you play in the JV division, you really shouldn't brag about winning. Try stepping up 1 year into the top local division with Vestal, SCC, Norwich, and the other consistently good local schools and see what happens. When you win one of those, feel free to brag.

Torto is very overrated and very guardable. He scored 2 baskets against Norwich. If you leave him open he'll make open shots, if you play him tough he'll whine like a little girl and miss shots. The officials will get him to the line enough for him to get to double digits but he won't decide the game is guarded well.

SCC wins by 4.

Was at the game last night. Garbade is lucky he is so big because if he was only 6-3 or 6-4 he would be nothing. Powell from JC is a way better basketball player than Garbade. Torto from Seton is the real deal.

Torto has been awesome since the 6th grade, but thanks for recognition. Also buddy size matters in basketball, Shaq wouldn't be good if he wasn't 7'1 and 300 pounds. Pretty stupid theory to knock Garbade's game.

1. You don't pick your division for the Stop DWI tourney, they put you in one - so the best you can do is win the division you're placed in

2. Vestal was in M-E's division this year and M-E beat them

Check your facts before you speak Mylo. M-E beat Norwich last year. Beat Seton last year. And beat Vestal this year. Now pick three more teams...

Yep, you're right. Vestal is weaker this year than they've been and dropped down to the division ME played in. Congrats for winning another lower level division game.

Right, the tournament organizers new Vestal is down this year and dropped them out of the top division, down to the division ME always plays in. That's the division they always put the MAC teams in with the 2nd level STAC teams. I like the word the other guy used, the "JV" division. Congrats to ME for winning the JV division a few times.

What's the problem with the Garbad comment? He's decent locally, usually playing against kids 4-6 inches smaller. The Shaq analogy doesn't really work to make your point. Shaq played against guys around his height every night and dominated them for quite a few years. Put Garbad out consistently with kids his size and he'll be below avg., no question.
