Rec. Park tennis court disaster! Nearly $ 2 million wasted because of corrupt contract (Resciniti, Scanlon & Kraham)

- Sophia Resciniti (R) represents Binghamton City Council District 2 where the Rec Park Tennis Courts reside.

-The courts have been under construction, off an on, since the project started in 2020.

- The original work was done incorrectly by the contracted company Broome Bituminous Products, causing a need for another remodel that we still haven't seen the completion of.

- Sitting City Council Member for District 7, Tom Scanlon, is the CFO of Broome Bituminous Products (he was originally elected in 2015).

- The Rec Park Tennis Court project was proposed, approved and the contract given to BBB while Tom Scanlon was already a City Council Member.

- The Rec Park Tennis Court costs had ballooned from the original $600,000 to $1,900,000, and that was BEFORE the need for a redo of the remodel.

- The estimated costs of the remodel have not been made public, but current Mayor Jared Kraham (R) has publicly stated that the construction company (he doesn't mention the companies name, wonder why 🙄) will be held financially responsible for any further costs and lawsuits on behalf of the City would be filed. Even though he has said that there is no public info on how much it will cost them.

- Resciniti and Kraham are now publicly bragging about the much needed road repairs for District 2, but don't seem to mention whose company may or may not be doing the work.

All of this should bother every single reasonable taxpayer and voter. The idea that a sitting elected officials own company can get multi-million dollar contracts approved by the legislative body they work for, and supported by the Mayor from their own party, should be a major 🚩🚩🚩.

So, I have simply asked them if they would support a City wide law banning these kinds of projects and contracts for companies connected to sitting elected officials. It really should be a bipartisan concept, as long as they're not worried about pissing off their apparent fellow cronies.

I won't be holding my breath for their answers, but if you live and vote in Binghamton you should be paying attention to this kind of textbook cronyism occurring right in front of our faces.

This is why we need Checks and Balances in government.
