In fact, I’d be a bit shocked if ambivalence of the sort I’m expressing doesn’t get singled out as hateful Republican panty-sniffing and bedroom snooping, and conservatives - or even Dems - who have the nerve to suggest he ought to be prosecuted or censured will be attacked as subhuman scum. This vile tendency to defend the most deviant behavior of their leaders is one of the more charming habits I’ve noticed among the Dems… There’s no doubt Sen. Vitter and Sen. WideStance will be thrown in our faces, to which it’s probably necessary to reply, “yeah, we support them… by staying home on election day. See, e.g. 2006 elections.” The fact is a lot of conservatives and individually moral libertarians have turned against the Republicans for tolerating people who aren’t just a bit different, but who are actually perverts in their ranks. And sorry, folks, but seducing underage interns and illegally soliciting sex in airport bathrooms is perverted, and not in the healthy kinky kind of way. Along with the runaway spending, the Republicans have cut the rest of us adrift on moral issues, even those libertarians whose sole rule is “just don’t scare the horses.” It’s costing the Republicans. Not so the Dems; a great many of the rank and file are apparently hungry for a third Clinton term, because we just haven’t seen enough of Bill Clinton in the White House, and his moralizing and shenanigans ; you just wait until this Spitzer thing gets finished - he’ll be talked about as a running mate for Obama.
