Hey wake up already. They freakin walked down the parkway...WOW BIG DEAL.

Protesting against the war doesn't mean they don't respect and value the soldiers....it means they DO.

Our soldiers fight and die, our forefathers back to the revolution fought and died for the RIGHT TO PEACEABLE ASSEMBLE and the RIGHT TO SPEAK AGAINST OUR GOVERNMENT....how many people in the history of the world have had the right? Damn damn few.

So, get over it....it is an amazing thing that those kids have the right to do what they did and not be hung for it.

I am betting they were sincere in their view and, hey, good for them for caring enough to get off their butts and do something - protest....and ya wouldv'e thought they had a nuclear bomb strapped to their chests with the numbers of cops that responded. Cripes, big deal.

And to the soldier, weren't you fighting for those rights?

I like the guy that complained that his rights were not read to him. Miranda rights only need to be read to someone if they are in custody AND they are being questioned. Alot of people don't know that. I work in a law office and I hear it alot. So, if you commit a crime and in this case it is viewed first hand by the officer, they don't need to read your rights to you. Miranda is all about what omissions you make to the police, if they saw you commit the crime they don't need you to omit it. If they arrest you and then interview you about it, in hopes to get you to omit to more, then they read you your rights. So, the cop was right in this case. This is not the movies. lol

Haha, I think you're confusing omissions (to leave out or neglect) with admissions (to acknowledge or confess) and omit (not a word) with admit. What exactly do you do at this law office?

I hear the war is running aorund two trillion right now. I have a bit more of an issue with that than a little overtime for some police.

Who cares. There are more important things in this world than money. Of course, the spoiled rich kids that go to SUNY wouldn't understand that. Dont forget, the dollar amount that you always hear also includes the wages of the service men and women (war or no war). How much money were we spending when we were "containing" Saddam with all those troops in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia? All the flyovers enforcing the no fly zone, all the navy ships in the area ect. Clinton sat on that for 8 years and the left wing media and left wing professors (I laugh at the title) never utter a word.

The kids should get billed for the overtime, accidents and any other monetary costs associated with their bonehead move. Suspension would be a good idea too along with their teachers who probably put them up to this but were too chicken s**t to go.

all you Deleted protesters....as a soldier who serves to protect your rights.... everyone of you deserved what got served today! Liquid hell! I am a BU student and am curious to know if you had a permit "to lawfully and peacefully assemble" today? Peaceful and compliant? MY arse! Distinct video of a protester swinging her sign at an officer was aired on Fox news at 10. That is attempted assault of an officer. Sure as heck demonstrates HER peaceful intent. Have ANY of you loudmouths BEEN to Iraq?? I have. Twice. Every town we rolled through...we were greeted warmly. Oh my god...did the kids get spoiled by us. But the times in the Mosul region were the worst. Did I have to shoot people? YES!! The ones with the long tubes on their shoulders who were getting ready to fire into a crowded marketplace filled with women and their children. The ones who drove into a village looking to force young men into the Al Qaeda ranks and had no clue that WE..the United States Army...had already evacuated that village and were waiting with a big suprise...6 MK-19 40mm machineguns. NOT ONE INNOCENT was killed that morning. Do any of you know what improvements have been made that the mass media hasn't told you? Or do you not open your eyes to a fair and balanced view of things? As you say you do. If you haven't been there to see and learn..then you have NO right to run your sloppy pie holes.

Oh and by the way, for protecting your freedoms and rights....your welcome. Scouts Out!

I will say thank you!! If I was young enough, I would be there with you. I served in peace time and do not know what war is like and I am not going to pretend I do. I back you guys 100%! I think what we are doing is right. There are many cases in history where the people of the time protested and complained about what the gov. was doing (Lincoln / civil war comes to mind) but historians applaud them and called them hero's. History will judge this ongoing battle with mass murderers of innocent women, children and men as the right thing to do. After all, we were not at war until they attacked our homeland. Shortly after 9-11, the whole country wanted revenge. What happened to that? People forget and listen to the left wing media that reports only the bad, never the good. I sleep better at night knowing we have dedicated soldiers like you protecting us from those who plan to do us harm. Maybe you could set up a Marine recruiting station on SUNY campus. Wouldn't that be fun!

me too! It's about time we had some protests! The majority of Americans are against Bush's war, which has ruined our reputation abroad and killed so many people. But, there's no reasoning with many of the folks here, fortunately, they are part of the minority-at last!

Jack Nicholson (Col. Jessup): Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Whose gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinburg? I have more responsibility here than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago, and you curse the marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And that my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. I know deep down in places you dont talk about at parties, you don't want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then question the manner in which I provide it. I prefer you said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand to post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!

I get the distinct impression that the 8 or 10 threads about the BU protest are heavily populated by one, perhaps two, posters.

Similar writing style throughout.

OOOOPS.

Support for war effort highest since 2006

American public support for the military effort in Iraq has reached a high point unseen since the summer of 2006, a development that promises to reshape the political landscape.

According to late February polling conducted by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press, 53 percent of Americans — a slim majority — now believe “the U.S. will ultimately succeed in achieving its goals” in Iraq. That figure is up from 42 percent in September 2007.

The percentage of those who believe the war in Iraq is going “very well” or “fairly well” is also up, from 30 percent in February 2007 to 48 percent today.

The situation in Iraq remains fluid, of course. A surge in violence or in troop deaths could lead to rapid fluctuations in public opinion. But as the war nears its fifth year, the steady upturn in the public mood stands to alter the dynamics of races up and down the ballot.

Yeah, it takes honor and a sense of duty to toss a puppy, or make fun of the people you are supposed to protect. You are a real man alright Cpl Manning

or maybe a real man should honor his family by standing up for what is right and not supporting an invasion of a sovreign nation by enlisting.

If you remember only one thing from me let it be this. The soldiers in Germany circa 1930's were doing what they were told too

real men don't blindly follow orders- they think for themselves

What a pathetic statement attempting to compare US soldiers with the soldiers in Germany in the 1930's. Doing so marginalizes the events that happened back then. Have you ever watched the concentration camp films in school? Did you read what happened when Germany invaded its neighbors? Maybe you should take some more history classes. If this were Nazi Germany, you can be sure you and your friends would have been taken to an open field and shot.

You're just a kid getting their orders from manipulative far left talking heads and believing they know it all.

yeah , education has taught you alot. Do you really believe marching on the parkway will stop the war?funny, and nice interview on the news blaming local cops for doing their jobs. . I t was funny how students said they are on cops side and blamed them for war. Just beacuse it was accepted in the 60s doesbt mean its ok now, be original. come up with your own ideas. By the way , we have advanced a little, now we communicate instead of marching and making fools of ourselves. while you march down the street with daddys credit card in your wallet to bail you out, ill bet your parents are proud of the education they purchased.

Actually, the red rose is the symbol of the British Labour party

Maybe it is, but this particular portrayal, with the rose clutched by a hand, is a symbol associated with the American Communist Party.

Actually, it is a symbol of the international labor movement and labour parties all over the world. Just as a point, which "American Communist Party"? The Communist Party USA, the Socialist Workers Party, which one?

To respond to the person regarding "were there any soldiers protesting", http://ivaw.org/index.php Recently held an event to raise awareness of the atrocities committed in Iraq. The event was nothing but Iraq war veterans, all who are strongly opposed to this war.

And, to the other schmuck, you seem so sure of yourself that I am a BU student, but, what I know, is that I am not. You just assume anyone with a brain is a BU student, which, I guess means that, as you are not one, you think of yourself as brainless? Well, so be it.

Not sure which American Communist party, but it is a communist symbol, so maybe your handle should be "Reasonable Communist", since not all atheists are communists, socialists, leftists, etc.

whew! I am glad that money is not all that important to you. You and your kids and grand kids can pay that two trillion then. Also - you asked how much we were spending to contain saddam under clinton. the answer is "two trillion dollars less"! It is interesting how you are so upset about a little overtime - but not upset over two trillion dollars - not to mention a quarter million dead - 500 of which are our soldiers. Interesting.

Imagine how much money this is going to cost in police overtime. Because a bunch of hippy, tree hugger protesters felt the need to step onto the Vestal Parway.

Every one of you should be hung from a gallows pole.

No one has a problem with protesting. I dislike the war myself.

But to step out onto a major highway and cause the accidents you did......WTF is wrong with you?

I hope every one of you gets sued for everything you have. I hope they give you YEARS in jail for the assinine move you pulled.

Lois DELETED should be sued as well as the campus.

I hope no one was hurt in any of the accidents.

It isn't everyone from BU. I had class that day and i assure u they DELETED me off just as much as everyone else. Most of the dudes participating were prolly just DE LETED trying to be trendy.

Go Home KIDDIE and Grow UP !

This ain't rocket science and we aren't in Kanas Totto. We know who you are, and know how to treat you baggy pant's, long hair jerks when we see you.

Your going to see a lot of changes come your way, BU Student. The people here, raiseing familys are going to take action to get you out of here.

You mean nothing, you are nothing, NOTHING BUT TROUBLE MAKERS that have no idea on how things work.

BTW...take that BU Teacher with you that filled your head with these ideas. Ah yes, the inside scoop! Names are already flying and guess what, your's is on that list...

that would be 'toto'. i havent a clue what 'totto' is. nor where 'kanas' might be. i can easily tell however, that the angst displayed in this city residents posts is worthy of several visits to a therapist. you seem terribly angry. BU students are a welcome addition to this sagging metropolis we call 'greater binghamton'. [nope not a suny student here either]

I think the protesters were way out of line yesterday and think they need to take a step back and start to respect authority. you can respect the laws and still protest. But that being said, I think to generalize all BU students is as stupid as the BU students referring to the locals as hicks. We all need to co exist in this area. Niether the area nor the University can survive without the other. Please BU students, do not judge the locals and the area based on the idiotic rants of some of the losers on here. Most of us appreciate what you all bring to the area and we hope you enjoy your time here.
