Actually, You do need to get this straight. Let me teach you. Smokers will pay these high taxes on them because they are addicted to them. They know people will pay the high taxes on cigarettes, just like they know you will pay high taxes for things you need, tires, auto insurance and gas. It's not like you can go without these things. Smokers can but they are addicted, perhaps you missed the point.

i didn't miss anything. i don't care if smokers are addicted. that's their problem. the other things are neccessities. does NYS force people to smoke? if it's too much money, quit. if you can't, then pay the piper. it can make up for all the money the state loses in healthcare for smokers. also, include second hand smoke care. and no, the tobacco settlements don't cover it all. i'm addicted and they raise the price. feel sorry for me. boo hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You make no sense at all.

I can live without tires, insurance and gas if I chose not to have a car. Smokers can easily live without cigs. In fact, they can live better without them.

I hope they tax them off the market.

How much do you weigh? Are you overweight? Maybe NYS should tax big macs and anything that will increase obesity. Obesity is an epidemic too, bigger than smoking BTW, but should NYS profit off of your bad choices? You may be on medicaid someday and you might need a triple bypass and diabetes medication. What about that? I don't even smoke, I personally chose not to because it's unhealthy, I also work out almost every day... I didn't need the state of NY (Socialist Commies) to tell me how to run my personal life. Where's my tax refund for being healthy? If we go by your philosophy and NY states I should get a healthy chunk of change back because i'm in shape. hmmmm... Sounds like a big tax grab scapegoat issue to justify raising taxes to unfair proportions. As far as not having a car, yes you could not have a car and survive, but let's be realistic here. Are you going to walk to work everyday? Stop being ridiculous.

Lets face it NYS sucks and im sure theres other states suck as well. I been here all my life. I have seen and heard it all. Im a smoker and if NYS thinks putting new taxies on cigarettes going make people stop smoking i beleive they better think twice. We work our DELETED off and pay taxies. They are trying to run are lives the way they want to just like alot of other things they are trying to put in front of us. People are tired of NYS B/S. Give something to the States for once to help the people out not try to take more away from ones.

P.S. Yes I admit cigarettes are bad for you. But its ur life and no one eles and you should beable to live your life the way you want to.

"You're all fat and I'm not".

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Ridiculous? I think not. I used to take the bus to work everyday. I also used to walk to work everday. At those times, I had no vehicle. Nothing ridiculous about that.

Are you aware that some people even work from home? That some people are retired??

Let me make sure I got that......

You inhale smoke from a weed that puts a few hundred nasty toxins in your body, cakes and dries out your lungs and has no nutritional value or any positive health consequences, offers only pain and death, and you call someone else a retard?????

Duh.

Follow that reasoning with the muslim threads.

I don't smoke and don't have a problem with people who smoke. If you want to smoke, go right ahead just as long as it doesn't effect me.

As far as the taxes, they are not fair. I heard Lupardo on 1290 talking about the tax and how she didn't support it because it hurt convenience store and Mom/Pop businesses. There is not much that I agree with her on but I think that she is spot on on this. If people are smokers, they are going to go to PA to get them if they are this close.

I almost want to cry!

The thought of poor old pop and gray haired mom in their corner store, little Billy not having enough pennies for the horrible tax.

Mom and Pop not being able to sell the addictive, cancer delivery devices to the people who can enjoy it most.

I'm too choked up to continue.

You are all missing the point. It's not just about NYS raising a "sin" tax. This is about the blantant tax evasion that is going on in this state. Our state official refuse to follow the state's constitution and require the reservations to collect and pay tax on sales made to those who do not live on the reservation. We are talking millions of dollars lost to the state's coffers every year because our legistlature and governors (past and present) are too afraid to stand up and finally hold the reservations responsible for these taxes. I look at how this will effect the economics of our state because people will go over the border to purchase not just cigarettes but many other items because "they are there" or to "stick it" to the state. This impacts our workers. No sales = no work = more unemployment = welfare = more taxes.

So, if your ticked that the state is once again "sticking it" to you, don't just sit here and complain. Phone/email our state representatives. Let them know that you won't stand for their blantant disregard of our state's constitution. Get them to collect the taxes that are already due the state, then let's all discuss an increase to the cigarette tax.

Level the playing field.

If I'm going to complain about taxes being too high, I damn sure ain't gonna start off with cig taxes.

Cigs killed my Dad.

I hate everything about them.

I'd love to see the whole state of South Carolina on welfare after all the tobacco farmers lose their livelihoods.

don't bother reasoning with someone who uses an analogy that compares the neccessity of cars with that of cigarettes. can't win that battle. just hope their hockey helmet is on tight.

if NYS wants to tax mcdonalds, that's fine with me. i eat there sometimes. it causes diseases that taxpayers end up paying for. i wouldn't complain and whine about it. i would eat something else or pay the extra money. pretty simple. surely the government screws people over in ways that make this look tame.

Hey moron, once again you missed the point.. Wow, is your IQ in the double digits? They tax things that they know people will pay for... Car tires, insurance premiums, cigarettes.. I hate smoking too but the reason I'm against this tax increase is because i'm sick of NYS making lame scapegoat excuses for a huge tax grabs... Unfortunately you're too dumb to realize this... That's why the casino threatened to leave, because of tax. That's why business threatens to leave, tax, tax, tax...

Don't worry, i'm working on it. After I graduate I'm moving. Is it a coincidence that between the years 1990 and 2004 44% of people between the ages of 18-34 have left upstate NY? High Taxes = No Jobs.. The stats don't lie. Maybe you should move since you like high taxes so much, maybe to a nice socialist country or even a communist one that decides what's good for you.. Cuba perhaps? They were just allowed the priveledge of owning cell phones.. It's a good thing their government told them it was ok to use them..

i knew you were a college puke. so the educational opportunities are ok for you here? why didn't you go somewhere else? you don't even know how to wipe yourself and you're complaining about taxes? nobody wants you here. leave and bless another area with your complaining. remember, the grass isn't always greener on the other side. ask your parents what that means.

It's sad to see that even a young "College Puke" as you call me has more accumulated common sense than a jackass like yourself. Put down the Budweiser once and awhile, turn off the NAAAAZCAR, and start doing some thinking once and awhile. It's good for you, I promise..

You are right. Plus this area would be in even worse shape without the college students. How about we put more taxes on that BUD.

The state and the county is a joke. After getting 50k in debt and receiving a Master's from BU, I can't get a job here. Its not that I am not qualified or unexperienced, the main problem seems to be that I don't know anyone and those that do know me are too afraid for they fear retribution for past indiscretions. Maybe I should try to suck up to some overweight, overpaid party hack so I can get a job?

Naww, I don't think so. I will continue to work in PA, atleast there I don't have to worry about muslim fundies parading down main street. We ARE the laughing stock of the nation!!!!
