Bee
I'm reading A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle and have been viewing the Oprah Winfrey/Tolle webcasts. It's wonderful stuff and has really helped me look at myself. Anyone else reading it?

I hope that the exposure through Oprah turns this book into a movement. The world really needs some enlightening about now. If you decide to try and form a local group, be sure to post it here, and I'll come.

Guest Guest
So what is the basic premise of this book/movement? There is a collective mental illness called ego. The vast majority of humans are so self absorbed and dedicated to feeding our own egos that we completely lose track of anything that really matters. Check out Oprah.com or do a search for Eckardt Tolle, his site comes right up. But there's more free info on Oprah's site if you're really interested. People's egos are the problem? Oprah, a multi-zillionaire who makes millions of dollars a week is pushing a theory that there is to much ego out there? You are joking, right? @
2pelo Honey
I'm not, but a friend of mine is, and just emailed me this quote (along w/ a thumbs up for the book), which she loved... Guest sceptic
Intended to make us collectively accept socialism in this country. The super rich get to keep their billions and the rest of us who work our butts off to make a 'middle class' income are taxed to death. But all that shouldn't matter because we have a 'higher purpose'........... Oprah does stuff to keep lining her own pockets, not because it's good for me. Oprah doesn't seem like a person that feeds her mind, just her stomach and her pockets (whichever comes first).

Who says she is the most giving person on the planet? Have you seen her tax return? She has a net worth of $2.5 Billion. So she gives away a few million, so what? @
Guest Guest
If you're deeply and richly satisfied with your life, there's no need for you to check out Eckart Tolle. If you feel like there might be more out there to discover and enrich your life, check it out. You have nothing to lose but a little time. Its not about communism or anti-Christian, but alot of people have that knee jerk reaction. I never thought much of Oprah either, but when she hooked up with Eckardt and dedicated a large portion of her time and web-site to his teachings, I took notice. Maybe she's ok. And if she earns a few extra million from this venture, more power to her. Its better than parading bizarre wierdos with new fad diets all over the place. "What you fight you strengthen; what you resist, persists;" So people who fight tyranny, strengthen it? If you fight cancer, it will strengthen it? This does not make a lot of sense. This is very common among Oprah's beliefs. She has promoted a lot of charlatans. This is not the first and it won't be the last.

Guest Guest
This is an excellent book. A real eye opener. It would be nice if the world had a copy to read and try to follow along with the ideas. The world would be a more peaceful place! I'm still in the middle of the book, but very good so far! Guest Guest
So you've read the book and feel comfortable making that statement? No, I just read the quote and expanded on it. Why would I want to reward another New Age charlatan with profits from buying the book. If he was REALLY interested in changing the world, he or Oprah (who is worth $2,500,000,000) would put it on the web for everyone to read for free. Guest Guest
There's alot of great info on there for free. Did you check? As a matter of fact I did. When I saw the add for a seminar being held on Mar 23rd, I realized that the site was stale. I just went to Oprah.com and saw the link titled "Get the basics to find your perfect lipstick" and I wanted to barf. Maybe you could supply us with the links. I can play Youtube, every news website, Windows media stuff and real player stuff. I don't need another player on my computer that can screw up something else. Forget about it. Thanks for taking the time to provide the link but I don't think I will pursue it. The second link goes to some mumbo jumbo that basically says we are running out of time to fix the world. This is like the millionth time I have heard or read this. Again thanks for the link. Maybe someone else will get something out of it.

Bee
Yes one does have to install the video player for the Tolle/Oprah webcasts...It's been quite extraordinary, thousands upon thousands of participants from around the globe. I didn't mind doing the install, took only minutes. To those asking about A New Earth: this from the book jacket. "With his bestselling spiritual guide The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle inspired millions of readers to discover the joy and the freedom of a life lived "in the now." In A New Earth, Tolle expands on these powerful ideas to show how transcending our ego-based state of consciousness is not only essential to personal happiness, but also the key to ending conflict and suffering throughout the world. Tolle describes how our attachment to the ego creates the dysfunction that leads to anger, jealousy, and unhappiness, and shows readers how to awaken to a new state of consciousness and follow the path to a truly fulfilling existence." There you go...As one poster said, if you have a wonderful fulfilling and etc. life you need not trouble yourself, perhaps the book would not be your thing at this time.. I know only a few individuals who have achieved a modicum of inner peace, Tolle's work is guiding me to my own.
