My biggest complaint about school taxes is if you don't have kids or never had kids in any school you should be paying a very much lower rate, if anything at all, than people who do or did. Forcing me to educate your kids into a socialist/marxist model is stealing from me. Prove me wrong. Your kid, your money.

I HATE it when we agree ;)

As far as I'm concerned, while public education is a good thing in general in terms of literacy rates (beginning to wonder about that now....kids can't read or write), there should be a tax adjustment based on how many kids you have in school.  If we chose to stop at two, why should we pay to edumacate  seven from another family?

Non profits are a joke in Broome County.  They take property off the tax rolls and pay nothing in return.

Look at the United Way.  They have at least 21 employees.  What for?  They are supposed to be a group that raises money for many groups so that they don't have to.  They hit up big organizations to do payroll deduction for their employees.  The fundraising runs Sept thru Dec.  What do these 21 employees do the other 8 months?

The UW has not filed a Form 990 with the Attorney General in 3 years.  WTF?  What are they hiding?  The President of the board when they stopped filing 990s was Sue Mcloud, former superintendent of UE, another non-profit.

Close them up.  Too many Executive Directors of non-profits in Broome County.  Most have overlapping missions.  Churches, Vines, the Food Bank and Chow all "feed" people.  Why 4, why not 1 group doing the work?

We don't donate to any of those "non-profit" umbrella organizations for just that reason.  Not a lot of dough filters down after all of the overhead is skimmed off by "administrative  expenses".  We donate time or money directly to the local food bank, volunteer fire company, etc.
