QueenB
Well everybody, now we can't even trust major car dealerships in our area. There is current litigation in process so I will refrain from mentioning names and the accused at this time. A stolen vehicle was sold to a customer over a year and a half ago from a major dealership in our area. The customer found out after being held at gunpoint and having the vehicle confiscated and impounded. After more investigation it was found that the vehicle had a fake title and swapped VIN tags that did not match the internal VIN number in the computer. Make sure you check that your windshield and door VIN tags match the VIN on your internal computer, as well as your core support and firewall tags. Protect yourselves. It's unknown at this time if this has happened to anyone else locally or not, but better to find out for yourself than find out from the police department. ginger
Wow, so how did that happen? Stolen car traded in or sold to dealer? I wonder how the dealer didn't catch it.
QueenB
Dealer purchased the vehicle at auction. Came from and reported stolen out of a southern state.
ginger
That makes sense. ^^^But I wonder why the vehicle wouldn't show up stolen on the CARFAX? Wouldn't it be easy enough to make a notation?
QueenB
Ginger the carfax report was showing the VIN number that was swapped so it didn't show up and if the dealership did their due diligence and checked the internal Vin as well as the additional Vin plates they would have known there was something wrong. The title was electronically transferred through Albany Dmv.

QueenB
I'm shocked that this major news story hasn't gained more attention on here. A gofundme has been started to help the family recoup some funds to secure a vehicle while this mess is sorted out through the courts. https://gofund.me/4a804a9c
QueenB
There are now 3 other customers that have come forward (after seeing the FB posts) stating they were sold stolen vehicles by the same salesman, at the same dealership.
