"At 9 p.m., Route 17 east traffic was still being diverted onto old Route 17 around the incident. Route 17 east was closed around 5 p.m. A state DOT official said the road should be reopened by 10 p.m.

An unknown number of vehicles are still stuck on Route 17 east before the bridge".

How'd ya like to be stuck there?

The guy wasn't going to jump. I went by him sitting on the bridge guard rail at 4:30 and he was still there threatening to jump at 8:38 per the PS&B. If he was going to jump, he wouldn't have sat there for 4 hours, he was looking to get the sympathy of the NYS Police and the public.

Now they are saying that he was there since around 1:00 PM and at 8:38 PM the subdued him. He had seven hours to jump and was still sitting on the bridge. He was looking for sympathy and attention. Now he can enjoy BC hospitality until they decide what to do with him.

That was soooo funny.... and we just got cable TV last summer! Now we can watch HBO and everything! Jerk....

My daughter lives up Piper Hill Rd and she cant get cable and she has to use dial up for internet. That wasnt really as rediculous a statement as you might think.

Let me get this straight You live in Windsor and you are worried about who is getting off the highway? My question is why would anyone bother?

Murder suspect taken from Windsor bridge charged

A downstate man who threatened to jump from a Town of Windsor bridge was accused Sunday of beating his girlfriend to death with a metal baseball bat.

Robert Sepe, 53, of Cortlandt in Westchester County was captured Saturday night after he tried to jump off a Route 17 bridge over Shedd Road. He was transported Sunday to a state police jail in Cortlandt and was charged with second-degree murder.

A woman's body, with a face disfigured beyond recognition, was found Saturday in a bedroom in Sepe's home, about 40 miles north of downtown New York City. The woman was believed to be Sepe's girlfriend, Janette Carlucci, 41, who also lived at the residence, police said.

DNA and dental records will be used to confirm the woman's identity, said Senior Investigator Bruce Cuccia.

Police were broadcasting alerts Saturday seeking Sepe and the white 2002 Cadillac Escalade he drives. Shedd Road resident Jaime Burton, 34, said he spotted the Cadillac Escalade parked under the bridge around 1 p.m. Saturday and someone walking around the bridge. He thought the man was inspecting the bridge.

But it wasn't until 4:07 p.m. that State Police Trooper Dennis T. Colpitts observed a man standing on the Shedd Road overpass. Colpitts engaged Sepe in conversation. Sepe, who appeared despondent, climbed over the guardrail and fence, and told the Colpitts not to come any closer, police said.

State police crisis negotiators were called and spoke to Sepe for approximately three hours.

At 8:38 p.m., a trooper grabbed Sepe and a struggle ensued atop the bridge. State police said Sepe lost his footing and his grip on the fence, at which time negotiators and other police officials prevented him from falling from the bridge.

State police said Sepe was holding a knife, which fell to the ground during the tussle.

Press & Sun-Bulletin reporter Eric Reinagel contributed to this report.
