Korchak giving Gelson time off in exchange for job?

It hasn't even been 24 hours since the election results came in, and word has come from the DA's office Mike Korchak is trying to sweeten the deal for new Judge Debra Gelson to hire him as her law clerk.  Korchak has floated lots of time off for Gelson in exchange for the job.

"Extra" time off isn't something Korchak can authorize, as county employees there are county policies regarding vacation time.  This would be time theft.  But, ultimately it's Korchak who must determine if Gelson is at work or not.

My source will keep an eye on how often Gelson is at work over the next 7 weeks.  This may be something needing to be investigated by a special prosecutor in January, or another state agency.

Has the absentee ballots been counted yet? Bergman is down by 19 votes so I don’t believe the ship has sailed yet

Absentee have only been partially counted and affidavit haven't been counted at all, per the Broome County board of elections website. There's a change Bergman can still take this.

You are right and bergmans team posted about how an automatic manual recount is triggered in NYS with a margin of .5% or less than 20 votes and she is at 19. This race is not over and there is a realistic chance that she can still pull this off.

It's possible but not probable. Absentees strongly favor Democrats. We've seen this in Broome County many times where Republicans lead after Election Day, only for Democrats to take 60-70% of the absentees. Republicans vote in force on Election Day.  Percentage wise early voting and absentee voting is always strongly Democratic voters.

Partially counted means 98% counted.  The absentee period lasts over a month, those were all counted with Tuesday's results.  The only absentees to be counted are the few that come in after election day (post marked by Election Day).  This isn't like the old days of absentees, where thousands were counted after the election, the state changed that process last year.
