The Catholic Catechism for Adults on Page 52 says. "Can you learn to save your soul just by reading the Bible?" No, because certain things in the Bible can be misunderstood, and because the Bible does not have everything God taught."

Notice that the first part of their answer to "Can you learn to save your soul just by reading the Bible?" is "No." However, their own translations of the Bible teach the opposite. The following scriptural quotations are from Catholic translations.

2 Tim 3:15-17 says -- "And because from thy infancy thou hast known the holy scriptures, which can instruct thee to salvation, by faith which is Christ Jesus. All scripture, inspired of God, is profitable to teach, reprove, to correct, to instruct in justice, that the man of God may be perfect, furnished to every good work." Thus, the apostle Paul by the inspiration of God says to TImothy "thou hast known the holy scriptures, which can instruct thee to salvation" and make you "perfect, furnished to every good work."

The next part of the answer in the Catechism to the question "Can you learn to save your soul just by the Bible?" is "No, because certain things in the Bible can be misunderstood..." They are implying that the Bible cannot be understood. The apostle Paul said we can understand what he wrote. "If yet, you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me towards you: how that, according to revelation, the mystery has been made known to me, as I have written above in few words; as you reading, may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ."

In regards to the Catholic claim that the Bible does not have everything God taught -----

In John 20:30, John simply said that Jesus did many other signs (miracles) which he did record. Notice, though, what John says in the next verse, "...But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name." Thus, the apostle clearly shows that he wrote sufficient things to produce the faith which brings life in the name of Jesus. Life in the name of Jesus refers to eternal life and it is obtained by belief in the things written by the inspired writers.

Catholic officials follow up their claim that we cannot understand the Bible by stating that one can get the true meaning only from the Catholic Church. The Catechism for Adults on Page 10 says -- "How can you get the true meaning of the Bible? You can get it only from God's official interpreter, the Catholic Church." The Catholics have no passages that mention an official interpreter and, thus, they try to support their claim through human logic and reasoning. Anytime men do such, it amounts to nothing more than human philosophy rather than Scriptural proof. The doctrine of "infallible interpreter implies that God did not make Himself clear. It implies that God gave us a revelation that still needs revealing. Did God fail in His attempt to give man a revelation? Do the Catholic officials want us to believe they can express God's will more clearly than God Himself?

Where have I seen this exact same URL before? Ah, I remember ... in previous posts by A Faithful Catholic ... like about 12 times over recent weeks. It keeps popping up over and over, almost exclusively. A Faithful Catholic seems so fixated on this one site in particular that it bears the Hallmarks of Cherry-picking.

It is an ethics watchdog from within the Baptist Church, and is applying strong pressure to bring to justice those of its Clergy whose conduct lets down the ideals of their Church. Presumably other denominations have similar watchdog agencies too, even the Catholic Church.

Therefore, A Faithful Catholic, please find and share a link to the Catholic Church's own counterpart to this Baptist initiative, so comparisons can be made.

I'll do it on behalf of AFC...there is an organization called "Roman Catholic Faithful" that has been documenting not only sexual abuse cases, but liturgical abuses as well.

This organization...a group of lay Catholics...have acted as watchdogs for years with respect to the pedophile/homosexual Priest scandal within the Church...they doggedly pursued the perverts, expose the coverups and have worked to bring justice for many victims.

They were largely responsible for the scandals finally making national news.

Take off your Catholic-hating blinders for a moment...perhaps you'll learn something.

http://www.rcf.org/

There are other Catholic organizations who have worked tirelessly to rid the Church of the perverts and enemies within who have managed to infiltrate her.

Why don't you try using the REGULAR Catechism online, so we can all see it????? I can't take your word for anything!

The Catholic Catechism for Adults on Page 52 says. "Can you learn to save your soul just by reading the Bible?" No, because certain things in the Bible can be misunderstood, and because the Bible does not have everything God taught."

This is so true:

1.) Private interpretation has caused 22,000+ denominations ALL CONFLICTING to arise since the "reformation" You mean to tell me people UNDERSTAND SCRIPTURE? I don't think so, pal. If they did, they would ALL HAVE THE VERY SAME MESSAGE AND DOCTRINE. They don't!

2.) The written Word of God is only HALF of the entire Word of God.

If you don't UNDERSTAND IT, what good is it? Nobody understands it in the heretical churches! They all have DIFFERING messages and doctrines! Confusion!

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful" Certainly does not say it is the only Word of God and the ONLY thing to use!

The next part of the answer in the Catechism to the question "Can you learn to save your soul just by the Bible?" is "No, because certain things in the Bible can be misunderstood..." They are implying that the Bible cannot be understood.

It can be understood, if your mind is steeped in THEOLOGY. Apparently, nobody can get it right in the heretical churches.

The apostle Paul said we can understand what he wrote. "If yet, you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me towards you: how that, according to revelation, the mystery has been made known to me, as I have written above in few words; as you reading, may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ."

The key word is MAY.

Do you think your tricks are going to go right past me and NOT be noticed? Come on! Why don't you quote the WHOLE passage??????

30Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. (you forgot to add that!!!) 31But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

There is that tricky key word again: MAY. It is NO guarantee.

Apparently, no one in the heretical churches can get anything right! 22,000+ DIFFERENT versions of Christianity? Please....

Here is a nice big cut and paste for YOU:

Catechism:

Apostolic Tradition and ecclesial traditions

83 The Tradition here in question comes from the apostles and hands on what they received from Jesus' teaching and example and what they learned from the Holy Spirit. The first generation of Christians did not yet have a written New Testament, and the New Testament itself demonstrates the process of living Tradition.

Tradition is to be distinguished from the various theological, disciplinary, liturgical or devotional traditions, born in the local churches over time. These are the particular forms, adapted to different places and times, in which the great Tradition is expressed. In the light of Tradition, these traditions can be retained, modified or even abandoned under the guidance of the Church's Magisterium.

III. THE INTERPRETATION OF THE HERITAGE OF FAITH

The heritage of faith entrusted to the whole of the Church

84 The apostles entrusted the "Sacred deposit" of the faith (the depositum fidei),45 contained in Sacred Scripture and Tradition, to the whole of the Church. "By adhering to [this heritage] the entire holy people, united to its pastors, remains always faithful to the teaching of the apostles, to the brotherhood, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. So, in maintaining, practicing and professing the faith that has been handed on, there should be a remarkable harmony between the bishops and the faithful."46

The Magisterium of the Church

85 "The task of giving an authentic interpretation of the Word of God, whether in its written form or in the form of Tradition, has been entrusted to the living teaching office of the Church alone. Its authority in this matter is exercised in the name of Jesus Christ."47 This means that the task of interpretation has been entrusted to the bishops in communion with the successor of Peter, the Bishop of Rome.

86 "Yet this Magisterium is not superior to the Word of God, but is its servant. It teaches only what has been handed on to it. At the divine command and with the help of the Holy Spirit, it listens to this devotedly, guards it with dedication and expounds it faithfully. All that it proposes for belief as being divinely revealed is drawn from this single deposit of faith."48

87 Mindful of Christ's words to his apostles: "He who hears you, hears me",49 the faithful receive with docility the teachings and directives that their pastors give them in different forms.

The dogmas of the faith

88 The Church's Magisterium exercises the authority it holds from Christ to the fullest extent when it defines dogmas, that is, when it proposes, in a form obliging the Christian people to an irrevocable adherence of faith, truths contained in divine Revelation or also when it proposes, in a definitive way, truths having a necessary connection with these.

89 There is an organic connection between our spiritual life and the dogmas. Dogmas are lights along the path of faith; they illuminate it and make it secure. Conversely, if our life is upright, our intellect and heart will be open to welcome the light shed by the dogmas of faith.50

90 The mutual connections between dogmas, and their coherence, can be found in the whole of the Revelation of the mystery of Christ.51 "In Catholic doctrine there exists an order or hierarchy of truths, since they vary in their relation to the foundation of the Christian faith."52

The supernatural sense of faith

91 All the faithful share in understanding and handing on revealed truth. They have received the anointing of the Holy Spirit, who instructs them53 and guides them into all truth.54

92 "The whole body of the faithful. . . cannot err in matters of belief. This characteristic is shown in the supernatural appreciation of faith (sensus fidei) on the part of the whole people, when, from the bishops to the last of the faithful, they manifest a universal consent in matters of faith and morals."55

93 "By this appreciation of the faith, aroused and sustained by the Spirit of truth, the People of God, guided by the sacred teaching authority (Magisterium),. . . receives. . . the faith, once for all delivered to the saints. . . The People unfailingly adheres to this faith, penetrates it more deeply with right judgment, and applies it more fully in daily life."56

Growth in understanding the faith

94 Thanks to the assistance of the Holy Spirit, the understanding of both the realities and the words of the heritage of faith is able to grow in the life of the Church:

- "through the contemplation and study of believers who ponder these things in their hearts";57 it is in particular "theological research [which] deepens knowledge of revealed truth".58

- "from the intimate sense of spiritual realities which [believers] experience",59 the sacred Scriptures "grow with the one who reads them."60

- "from the preaching of those who have received, along with their right of succession in the episcopate, the sure charism of truth".61

95 "It is clear therefore that, in the supremely wise arrangement of God, sacred Tradition, Sacred Scripture and the Magisterium of the Church are so connected and associated that one of them cannot stand without the others. Working together, each in its own way, under the action of the one Holy Spirit, they all contribute effectively to the salvation of souls."62

IN BRIEF

96 What Christ entrusted to the apostles, they in turn handed on by their preaching and writing, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, to all generations, until Christ returns in glory.

97 "Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scripture make up a single sacred deposit of the Word of God" (DV 10) in which, as in a mirror, the pilgrim Church contemplates God, the source of all her riches.

98 "The Church, in her doctrine, life and worship, perpetuates and transmits to every generation all that she herself is, all that she believes" (DV 8 § 1).

99 Thanks to its supernatural sense of faith, the People of God as a whole never ceases to welcome, to penetrate more deeply and to live more fully from the gift of divine Revelation.

100 The task of interpreting the Word of God authentically has been entrusted solely to the Magisterium of the Church, that is, to the Pope and to the bishops in communion with him.

Who belongs to a Church that promotes the sexual abuse of children and hides the abusers ? did you work at Good Sorrows too ?

First:

Now you know that the Catholic Church itself never did any of what you're stating, don't you. There's no getting around the fact that some who professed to being members were guilty ... but not the Church itself. So your statement is either unintentionally wrong or an outright lie.

I'll give you the benefit of doubt ...this time.

Second:

"work at Good Sorrows"? What is "Good Sorrows"

Do you know what you're trying to say?

Get back up on the porch with K of D.

AFC ... It's an easy way for enemies of the True Faith to divert attention away from the fact that they cannot refute the teachings of the Church.

I'm sure that you, and every other thinking and open minded person that reads your postings, have noticed that you are never attacked for the beliefs and teachings of the Church that you present, but only for inconsequential things like spelling, grammar and using words they object to.

It's all feeble attempts at diversion ... nothing more. The problem is that so many are so predisposed against the Church that they feed voraciously on these appitizers and never get to the main meal of True Faith.

And if there's one thing I know about it is "Main Meals" .... Just call K of D off the porch and ask him. haha! He may even come up with a new picture, but he'll never offer anything of substance regarding his beliefs vs. the True Faith ... that goes for his diaper clad friend, the lying Satan, too.

All worthless diversion.

Now that I've tugged on their strings, stand back and watch them dance.

"We are obliged to yield many things to the Catholics – that they possess the Word of God, which we received from them; otherwise, we should have known nothing at all about it."

-Martin Luther

By 500 AD the Bible had been translated into over 500 languages. Just one century later, by 600 AD, it has been restricted to only one language: the Latin Vulgate! The only organized and recognized church at that time in history was the Catholic Church of Rome, and they refused to allow the scripture to be available in any language other than Latin. Those in possession of non-Latin scriptures would be executed! This was because only the priests were educated to understand Latin, and this gave the church ultimate power… a power to rule without question… a power to deceive… a power to extort money from the masses. Nobody could question their “Biblical” teachings, because few people other than priests could read Latin. The church capitalized on this forced-ignorance through the 1,000 year period from 400 AD to 1,400 AD knows as the “Dark and Middle Ages”.

The Dark Ages – The State of the Church

The Dark Ages was a period of religious struggle. Protestants and Catholics viewed the era from opposing perspectives. Protestants regarded this time as a period of Catholic corruption; they repudiated the ways of the Catholic Church with its papal doctrines and hierarchy. Protestants strove to recreate a pure Christianity, void of these “dark” Catholic ways. Catholics did not view this era as “dark.” Catholics viewed this period as a harmonious, productive religious era. The Dark Ages were also the years of vast Muslim conquests. Along with other nomads and horse and camel warriors, the Muslims rode through the fallen empire, wreaking havoc and seeding intellectual and social heresy in their wake. Muslim conquests prevailed until the time of the Crusades. This age old conflict between Christianity and Islam remains until this day.

1.) The PAPACY is PURELY biblical. The Pope is the Successor of Peter, the holder of the Keys to Heaven:

"I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?searc...amp;version=31;

This is ALL the Authority the Pope needs...

2.) Hierarchy - Scripture clearly established "offices" and a "hierarchy" among Christians. The offices of "bishop, priest (presbyter) and deacon" are mentioned in Scripture 1 Timothy 3:1,8; Titus 1:7.

The heretics just wanted to REBEL against BIBLICAL AUTHORITY.

Protestants strove to recreate a pure Christianity, void of these “dark” Catholic ways.

Pure Christianity? By going against the Church and Scripture? What kind of Christianity is that? The one that NEVER existed.......

Catholics did not view this era as “dark.” Catholics viewed this period as a harmonious, productive religious era.

The CC has been fighting against HERESIES since DAY 1. The heretics of the 1500s are NO DIFFERENT than those of the first century.

If it wasn't for the crusades as well as the CC, we will all be MUSLIMS! :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

Jesus teaches us about tolerance, one of the fruits of the Spirit, and beyond mere tolerance, even love for other people and groups which may be different from our own.

"For if you only love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the publicans do the same? And if you salute your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the publicans do so?" Matthew 5:46-47, Luke 6:32-33)
