Looks like Aldi's is actually going in, according to the Deeds info in today's PSB.

Brookfield LLC sold 1149 Upper Front St to Aldi Inc.

I saw that also. This is great news for the area. Competition only LOWERS prices.

Sorry guys, just another crappy store, although it's better than another used carlot. I miss Ames!!! We have a void that needs to be filled!

I miss Ames too! Used to go there all the time and always found great Christmas gifts there too.

Even if you never go there and only go to the Giant you have to be happy because of the competition.

I allways thought Alidis sucked.

In most cases they do. But I like the cheese they sell. Already has the mold building on it so I don't have to leave it out over a weeks times before it gets a good taste, and I love those stale crackers they seem to have a endless supply of

Then don't go. No one will know that you aren't there.

In all honesty, I didn't care to go there, but my Mom is convinced of certain bargains, so I go once in awhile w/ her, and have found some very good deals...especially on produce...cheaper and better than the Giant.

It still sucks Toop! We need another Ames up here...somebody please!!! I'm tired of travelling to Vestal for everything.

My exwife used to go there and get their canned and box stuff. I think I still have some stuff left and we've been divorced 3 years now. Something just doesnt taste right about their stuff.

Limo, throw it out for crying out loud. My wife left over three years ago. I had three eggs and a half bottle of lime green mayonaise in the refrigerator. I didn't even smell them...I just figured they were bad!

Sorry sleepy, the civic fathers of Front Street did not want a lot of retail there. The Carousel Mall was supposed to be built on Front Street. When the almighty fathers said no, they took it to Syracuse.

So enjoy your weekly commute to Vestal.

Now why would you say that ?

I love their stale crackers and moldly cheese. I can pick it up in the middle of the day and enjoy a good " out of date " meal that night

I don't know that I've ever tried anything canned or boxed there?

SIH, what about K-Mart, rather than traveling to Vestal? Or Boscov's?

Personally, I'd LOVE a Target nearby.

Toop, I try to avoid downtown like the plague...sure ain't what it used to be. I went to Kmart for some boxer shorts and socks yesterday morning. Going back shortly to pick up some new pants. That's as far as I will travel. A Target would be great! BTW, before anybody knocks Kmart, I met the nicest people working in there yesterday, and the checkout lady had me laughing my butt off about how she doesn't wear underwear any more, while she was ringing my boxers up.

You bought new boxers and new socks just to go to Casino Night?

Did you get any compliments?

I haven't even taken them out of the bag yet...I wore my trusty "Flintstones" last night. Many, many, attractive women there last night, but only one looked my way. His name was Ben, and he likes crayons.

FYI: 1149 Front Street, according to town maps, is the former Lou Rappaport (house of 1000 items for us oldies) site. I guess that means one less tattoo place in that 1/2 mile stretch. Also means the scooter place moves, and relocation of the Harley track. Anybody know where they're going?

Anyway, Aldi's main entrance will be the town owned road that enters the Nimmonsburg Plaza, and exits on to Front Street via the traffic signal.
