I guess all of those demonstrators who blamed GWB for high oil prices went to the same place as all of those anti-war protesters. If the price of oil goes up or there's a foreign war, or if there's high inflation or high employment and a Democrat is in the White House, well, its just dandy. It's only bad if the prez is a Republican. - Hypocrisy 101.

Based on what? It hasn't been that cheap for two decades years. To peg it at the same value as the lows of the 80s, it'd still be about $2.00.The only countries where it's that cheap are the ones where they use huge amounts of tax money to subsidize it, like Nigeria and Venezuela. It's the screwiest kind of socialism.Gasoline prices are demand-driven. It can only work to lower prices if lowering the tax meant that it was profitable to produce more. Same amount of oil coming out, same amount of gas coming out of the refineries, same amount of consumption = same price, with oil companies making double their current profits. That *does* mean it will attract new competition, but because this is a major capital investment, it will take a decade or more to do anything with it, and that's assuming the government ever issues permits quickly. Meanwhile, everyone would scream bloody murder about the sudden doubling of oil company profits, not understanding that that's the point. You'd never get to see 18 cents off at the pump. That doesn't mean we shouldn't do it, but it won't work the way everyone thinks. Then, the lost revenue has to be made up elsewhere or something has to be cut, since we do need that revenue for relevant things like the highways.

99 cents or less a gallon

Saying it again doesn't make it possible. With another billion+ people in the world and nearly all of them becoming wealthier and consuming more, demand for energy has gone up *just a little tiny bit* since the last time it was that cheap. Meanwhile, we keep using up the cheap reserves, and new reserves become viable only *because* the price is higher.

It's only going to keep rising. The government isn't causing it and they can't stop it.

Please feel free to leave as soon as possible.

Don't worry. If we stay on the present course, there's a good chance it'll happen. When our debt catches up with us, spending cuts and tax hikes will happen whether voters want them or not. Few sane people will be looking to give up an ever-increasing share of their incomes to bribe insolvent seniors just so they can raise their children in a country with a crumbling, obsolete education, health care, transportation, and energy infrastructure while a large chunk of the world guarantees similar rights as our system. It'll be the same pattern as what's happened locally: those with educations and financial means (things most countries look for in residency applicants) will be able to emigrate, while those who don't will be left behind, unable to find a country willing to take them and carrying an ever-increasing share of the burden on their underpaid, overtaxed backs.

Remember I said it, because unless the political class figures out some incredible solution, you'll probably live to see the day.

Technically, there's two of us. Me, and the original "ignorance and selfishness" guy. Still, I applaud your attempt to make me feel bad about my income by accusing me of being on welfare. Nobody ever resorts to that on BCVoice, so it's very original.

You just keep on cheerleading the collapse and thinking it makes you the winner. I'm sure it will end well.

I didn't, so I'm good.

This is probably the third hilarious time in the last week that some retard on this board has suggested that I'm a liberal or an Obama supporter because I actually believe in free market capitalism and think the deficit spending is out of control and is set to destroy the country. What, did the IBM spill mess up your heads or something?

Obama was President when the economy started it's decline in December 2007.

He's done nothing to stop it. He has made it worse. It became his problem when he took the oath.

Obama had nothing to do with it. Obama hates corporations, except GE. Nice gas prices, Obango.

Corporate profits at a record high, you think he has control of gas prices, and you throw in the 'Obango'.

A trifecta in stupidity. Well played.

Gas prices are approaching their 2008 record high prices yet oil is considerably lower in per barrel price than it was in 2008.

Why is this?

Could the devaluation of the dollar have anything to do with it?

Why is the value of the dollar plummeting?

Is it because of all the money we simply print with nothing to back it?

Or is it because the federal government borrows BILLIONS of dollars a week just to stay afloat?

Or is it something completely unrelated to the 2 huge pachyderms in the room?

Mentally retarded people voted for Obama who had no experience running anything thinking he could actually solve the economic problems we have.

Obama has no experience to even run a lemonade stand and you think his policies have a positive impact on the DOW? Every major corporation knows Obama wants to get his hands in their cookie jars.

A trifecta in stupidity. Well played.

I didn't vote for an empty suit.

My post was quite serious. I've used the card in a ATM machine but that is all. How can you tell when the pump shuts off so no one else can fill up on my dime(I'm serious, I don't have a clue)? Checking account never gets below 3k.

I use my debit card most of the time for gas and it generally works everywhere. It's really quite simple, just swipe your card and follow the directions.
