Doug Drazen must be the candidate to beat. Otherwise all this time and effort to label (defame) him would not be taking place. If Mr, Drazen was a fringe candidate or Nolo Comtendre. These well-organized smears would not appear with such vigor. If Drazen did not have a good chance of being Mayor. He would just be ignored. Looks like 2013 is the year for Mr. Drazen.

Will the city's GOP leadership pass over proven vote-getting talent in favor of rank conformity? Not if they care about winning, and the city's future.

He's a vote getter! Get it? Never won single election, got his ass kicked by Randall Terry in a primary. Vote getter....what a loon.

Drazen has patiently waited for his turn. He is seasoned and tested. Like him or not, Drazen is the only viable republican candidate. Let's not have any more flashbacks. Mr. Drazen can bring together diverse elements and give us result-oriented government.

I can not imagine a republican candidate running on a platform that states: "leave the welfare office across from the High School alone". That would be continuing the failed status-quo.

If you think DSS across the street from the high school is a great idea. Then why not just put it Inside the high school.

We don't take turns being mayor. Drazen is tested... he has never won an election. How can you be "viable"

when you are shunned by your own party. Its politics, stupid.

What is a "diverse element"? Dose it fit in a city garbage bag?

Were not sure what you can or can not imagine. That statement is complete nonsense. I don't know if your keeping up on current events the county is full of republicans that don't support you. Why don't you rent a U-Haul and show up at Human Services and see how far you get?

Haven't you noticed the public schools have morphed into one big social program? Why not put the High School inside DSS? Relocating Human Services solves nothing.

The argument for term limits won in Binghamton. It fundamentally changed the way city government works, the way political parties had to operate in the city, and made this year's mayoral election incumbent free.

What a difference we have seen in city fundamentals. Just last week they picked up my garbage and put it back of a truck.

All hail Walter!

Diverse elements are needed for victory. Check the voter registration numbers. You may also want to check who won the Conservative Party primary for mayor in 2005, and the Independence Party primary for mayor in 2009. It was not NORMA! or the fake front man nightclub guy, even thought they tried.

I see "diverse elements" are people. Who's Norma? Poor Doug hopelessly immersed in his failures. It must get crowded inside that head of yours.

How many elections did you lose to become a "proven vote-getting talent"? Matt Ryan is a vote getter. He got more.... he's mayor your not. Another thing you 2 have in common.

But for term limits, Matt would not have had an incumbent-free mayoral election in which to run in 2005. Nor would have NORMA!, the most expensive last place finisher in Binghamton electoral history, handpicked and touted by city GOP leaders, yet relegated to the bottom rung on Election Day by proven vote-getting talent, without the backing of any party organization, on a shoe-string budget.

Broome County's main welfare office is directly across from the Binghamton High School. Relocating it would have an immediate favorable impact on the high school, the surrounding neighborhood, and the city as a whole.

Having it across from the high school has enriched certain well connected individuals, but at what long term cost? It might as well be a great big sign saying, "UPPER AND MIDDLE INCOME FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN NOT WANTED IN BINGHAMTON". At a time when the city is going on 50 years' loss of upper and middle income population, having the main county welfare office across from Binghamton High School is a self-injurious course of action, and must be discontinued immediately.

Doog Spooge hates the citizens of Binghamton. He made that clear after his first loss to Ryan. Front page of the PSB.

Would somebody please that article.

Your opinion. Unsupported by facts. As usual. We could use an empty building on Main St.

Remember that building is full of "elements" that will never vote for you.

Main welfare office or empty building is a false choice. The building owners are very smart. They will find something to do with it quickly, and they have made millions over the last two decades on that deal, so even if it was vacant a while, they would would probably be OK.

But given the false choice, better a vacant building than the county's main welfare office across from the high school.

For the millions the county paid in two decades' rent, and what they are still paying, they could have financed, and built a new facility on county property outside the city, then have an asset to show for it. Or is advocating for a new facility really being against the disadvantaged?
