I have hunted small game as a kid w/ .22s and a 12 ga. I still own a couple of guns. Wouldn't our gun rights be more protected with some common sense control? Gun zealots panic with any thought of any control, and that's the problem. What about my rights to go to a public venue, w/o feeling unsafe? After Sandy Hook, who can possibly feel otherwise? Really? Stephen Paddock of Las Vegas killer fame passed background checks. So to answer your question, NO. Control is a very bad word regarding constitutionally protected rights. Have you seen any studies on the compliance rate in NY with Cuomo's SAFE ACT? OK. If we have gun "controls" then those who obey laws are at the disadvantage to those who do not. Paranoid? Perhaps. When seconds matter the police are only 20 minutes away. You said you like the 1st Amendment - but lets say you can only use three or more syllable words if you pass a background check and cannot use electronic media. Only a typewriter and ink ribbon. But you can scan the document in .pdf and post it - on approved websites. You also have to have a speaking permit if you talk outside of your own home. Silly? Is it? That's what could happen when you start to weaken the Bill of Rights. Look at history: typewriter confiscation, authors to "reeducation camps". College grads and teachers to the "killing fields". Otherwise we'll end up like cowboys in the old westerns all wearing guns and challenging each other. Look at some of these other countries in Europe and even Canada. There will always be some sick person shooting something up, but we are the worse by far when it comes to loose gun controls and what follows it. It's not your "rights", but common sense! If you look at the rate that Youtube censors right wing blacks trying to wake their race up it becomes obvious they do not want the truth out there.
